making bootable cd/dvd from .iso

All right, so I am able to download the software available on msdn. I'm running windows7 premium on the computer im running now but i would like to know how to make the .iso a bootable cd so i can install the OS on a new hard drive I replaced on my other computer. I hear windows7 can do some nifty things with .iso files without third party software so thats why im asking here. If i need to download some additional software I dont mind that either.

Windows 7 can burn disks without third party burning software, but it's not a lot up on what Vista offered. As far as I know you'll still need a third party burning program to create an ISO image on a disk.

Personally I use UltraISO or Ashampoo Burning Studio

Nah burning an ISO to a CD/DVD is possible in Windows 7 without third-party tools.

I am so used to UltraISO's features I'm not sure I could ever use anything
else for seriously compiling and burning boot disks...

right, I burned the .iso on a cd and also a dvd but neither would boot correctly. The setting in bios are set to read from cd first. Is there more to burn on the disk other than the .iso to make it effective? Also I was thinking maybe the software i have is upgradeable only?

What happens when you try to boot? Did you burn the image to a DVD using image-burning software (like this tool), or did you just drag-and-drop?

Did you download an ISO or the files? If files, use Jon's link given above to make them into an ISO.

If ISO, I use Imgburn as it never fails. Select Burn Image to Disk, Load the ISO in using file folder icon, make sure it says Bootable in the text given, put a DVD in the drive and burn at 4x speed with Verify.

Just loading the ISO into ImgBurn now will tell you in the text if it is bootable:

I downloaded just the iso file from msdn and when i burned cd i simply dragged and dropped the .iso.

You burned a DVD, correct?

Can you install ImgBurn using setup above, Select Verify Disk, load ISO first using file icon and see if it shows it bootable as shown above?

Then put the DVD in the drive and click Disk icon to Verify.

sorry for the long response time but I used IMGburn to burn the .iso onto the dvd and it worked just fine. Either my other two disks were bad or something went wrong with windows media player burner... Anyway thanks for the quick replies and help on this matter.
