I am tasked with keeping my partners files/folders backed up and do this via a home network. I have been able to backup her pictures via this method but am at a loss how I tackle the problem of Libre Office.
Can someone please advise how I address the matter.
Thanks for your reply. I am attempting to be able to have all the Libre Office documents available as a shared folder that when I access the shared folder via my home network that I can back up the information to an external HD.
Prior to the switch to Win7 I accessed the data from XP from within my Ubuntu system. Currently I access all the pictures via this method but so far have been unable to see Libre Office. It would save a lot of time and effort if I could be able to backup everything via my system. It would let me do things as and when I want to rather that keep throwing folk of the system to backup data.
I hope this clarifies matters and look forward to hearing further from you.
I apologize if I've misunderstood your situation. (The two friends I have will tell you I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed!) One of your machines is running XP and the other 7, correct? Or is it 7 and Ubuntu? In any case, these tutorials may help:
By the look of things I have already done the work as in your example of Windows 7 & Ubuntu except that I am using the LTS version 10.04 and prepared things in reverse order.
At the moment I have 3 systems each with the workgroup name "WORKGROUP" and can view them on my Ubuntu system. There is some problem with Windows7 in that I can see the system clearly identified but it will not display when I click on it. All I keep getting is "failed to receive share list from server". This is a complete pain in the nether region as particularly when I use smb://192.168.0.100 all as the stripper says is revealed. The only problem at the moment is that I can only see pictures.
I am looking to see not only Pictures but Documents. As far as I can remember when I set up Windows 7 I set both documents, pictures and printers to share. So far it is only pictures that appear.
I will address the printer situation later and will go back to the Windows 7 details and double check them. I will get back to you shortly with a progress report.
Once again thanks for your kind assistance.
Edit: Went over the example provided and found that I had followed things OK. Attempted to mark the documents folder for sharing but it will not appear anywhere.
If you can give me guidance regarding the documents being available as shared it will be appreciated.
