I have found the program Malawarebytes Antimalware to be most useful and I bought the full version. This morning I gave a technician access to my computer and he reviewed my files and offered me a service for $190, which I declined. He looked at my Malawarebytes antimalware set up and remarked it should not be on SP3, since I am with Windows Seven. To my knowledge he did not change the settings.

Now I found that after restarting my computer the program will not start up; it is on SP3.

So I uninstalled the program and installed the free version. It will not start up. I wonder if anyone has advice for me. Is it possible that a box is not checked that should be,

When you first installed the full version did it make a restore point? If so you could try running the RP then installing MBAM Pro again. It might be a good idea anyway, It just seems a bit too snarky that the Remote Control Guy just happened to mention something and it broke right after he left.

By SP3, do you mean Win7 is on SP3? Windows 7 only has up to SP1. Or do you mean MBAM is on SP3? I never heard of service packs for Malwarebytes.

I did not make a restore point; it is odd that the program is not working after the remote tech remarked on it, but I cannot think and did not see any change he made.

Could it be MBAM is running in Compatibility Mode set as XP SP3?

Right click the MBAM shortcut and click compatibility mode tab. If it is using compatibility mode just turn that off.

I would run the MBAM clean utility and then reinstall MBAM.
Instructions for this and the download link for the mbam-clean.exe utility are here:

I am not sure how to remove he program now since originally I had the paid version installed. When it ceased to work I uninstalled it at the control panel and then reinstalled the free version.

Suggestions?

The mbam-clean.exe utility works for both the free and paid versions.

Basically what they are telling you in the instructions is to make sure you have your ID and KEY (if you have the Paid version) before you run the utility.

The idea is to turn off compatibility mode. MBAM should not need it.

Thank you for the picture.
I just wanted to be sure you had the operating system you should have after the tech was there.

MilesAhead is correct you do not want to run Malwarebytes in compatible mode.
Their is absolutely no need for that. I do wonder how compatible mode got selected.

I was looking for Netgear to get advice regarding setting up their product: basically it is so hot in my home office upstairs that I have to relocate my desktop downstairs. So I bought the Netgear product, which comprises two modules. One is connected to the Linskys router upstairs and it plugs into the wall socket upstairs. The second is a module that plugs into the socket downstairs and you can use it connected or wirelessly to my desktop. It is a more reliable way of using the home network. By that I mean you do not lose the signal and, if I did I could connect hard-wired, to the wall module downstairs. That is what I am up to. Do you follow? I wanted to ask Netgear a question and called a number that appeared to be Netgear. So I got a big sales pitch about their sevice......................so maybe he did alter the setting.

Following post #10 I am now up and running with the program and it is set up properly as advised above (no compatibility setting)
