When launching MBAM, there will be a prompt for UAC elevation so it isn't necessary to right-click, run as. It sounds as though it was a corrupt install.

Please download a randomized renamed mbam.exe version from here and do the following:

  • Place the renamed mbam.exe in the Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware folder on the infected PC and launch the renamed file. Then malwarebytes should run.
  • Note: In some cases, it will be necessary to rename the randomly named mbam.exe to explorer.exe (for example, when you are also dealing with "Security Tool" or similar fake scanner. You should be able to bypass whatever is blocking it by renaming the program/ exe file you want to run, to explorer.exe).
  • Once the renamed mbam.exe runs, the first step is to click the update tab in order to download the latest updates. If the computer cannot connect to the Internet, download the latest MBAM update from here http://www.gt500.org/malwarebytes/database.jsp and transport it to the infected computer via USB or similar means. Then manually install the update.
  • Run a quick scan allowing MBAM to remove what is found.
  • Shutdown/restart the computer.
  • Please let us know if y ou receive a "bad image error" when restarting the computer. This can be fixed by removing the appropriate O20 - AppInit_DLLs file.

Looking around the internet, I've heard of a rootkit being the possible cause. Is this the only program that gives you errors? Download and run LookInMyPC (first link in my sig) so we can see what's in your computer. Post the log.

I've looked at your logs (page 2), but could not find anything really conclusive. I could see when you tried to run the application though and I can also see that mbam.sys, is running, although I could not see the version info. A lot of people have had success by typing these in command prompt:

regsvr32 mbamext.dll
regsvr32 ssubtmr6.dll
regsvr32 vbalsgrid6.ocx
regsvr32 zlib.dll

I'm just curious, registering those dlls worked for you?

And to answer your question, yes, it's fine. Here's an explanation of what it does. You can deactivate it if you have no use for it:

The pdvdserv.exe process is used by your computer to allow the use of an infrared remote to control your DVD drive (as though it were a normal DVD player). If you disable this process, your infrared remote control will no longer be able to control your DVD Drive.
pdvdserv.exe is an application that does NOT appear to be a security risk
The Process Server database currently registers pdvdserv.exe to Cyberlink software.
This is part of PowerDVD.
