Malwarebytes scan times

Hi Folks

A full scan with malwarebytes(free) takes around 35 mins on my machine and is using 70.000kb -80.000kb of ram to run, but when i run it as scheduled scan through task scheduler its taking over 2 hours to complete and is only using 5.000kb. Is there any way to speed this up ie enable it to use more resources.

That was my first thought as its set to below normal at present but i upped it to above normal and nothing really changed still over 2 hours and using nothing on the resource side.

How big are your hard drives? Also do you have the most up to date version?

Scan times depend largely on how many files you have on your HD, how much RAM and processor speed. All those are a factor, but mostly it depends on how many files that scan has to sift through on the HD.

Windows may be limiting the resources it can use in lieu of other processes running in the background. Probably best just to run it on demand.

It also depends on whether it is running as a foreground or background process. Win 7 is usually set up to optimize for foreground processes to give a responsive GUI. Does it really matter if it takes longer when run in the background while you are getting on with other things?

I doubt that it does. It might just take a bit longer depending on what you're doing/running.

Me, I tend to try and optimize it a bit by scanning when I'm either doing something minor (like doing homework text docs) or when I step out for a bit to get some food. I think that helps it complete a little bit faster.

Probably old school thinking, but anytime I do a scan or sorts, I make sure as little as possible is running on the PC.

My point is that if you need to scan because of a suspected infection do it in the foreground. If you have a regular scheduled scan then you are not waiting for the results.
