Solved Manage wireless networks - access denied

My wireless connection will not connect automatically to my BigPond Netgear modem since last week. It always linked fine previously. I go to the 'Manage wireless networks' window and notice no networks listed.
When I attempt to add my wireless network and fill in all the details required, including the security key, I get an 'access denied" message.
This happens even when logged in to the 'real' administrators account. Does anybody have any suggestions, Bigpond had no ideas !!

What happens if you click on the wireless network icon the the system tray...
...then click on the SSID of interest
...then click connect?

When I click on the wireless network icon etc., I am presented with a text box asking for "the 8 digit pin number from the router display" with a link "connect using security key instead".
Previously the PC would automatically log in without any input required, (as I had requested in the 'manage wireless connections' settings).

Sounds like an installed antivirus has something to do with this. Which A/V are you running?
