Hello to everyone!

This is my second time here posting something and I keep comming to this forum as this is by far the best technical support our there for windows 7.
I am having a very strange windows behaviour lately and like 1 month ago everything was fine (I have only update since the graphic drivers and btw I have already try to go back to the previous version without any result and I have erased all the .tmp files on the computer).
Excuse me if this post is a bit large but there are many issue that must be mentioned.
Initially I guess the main thing is that sfc is not working at all, I have tried all the possible options and nothing, (online and offline both came with the "windows resource protection could not perform the requested operation).
The system is booting normally (there are no issues starting windows) and when I go to the Repair system option during boot with the dvd it says that there is nothing to repair as the system is booting normally.
Other thing is a that there are no updates show on the installed update (and I have installed a lot of them).
Other issue is that the turn on/off windows features is empty.
Other issues is that if I left that pc iddle for some minutes it get freeze and I have to turn it off and on.
The only tool I have been able to run from microsoft was the update rediness and it found no errors.
Other thing to mention is that the only two games I do have BF3 and ME3 crash the completely the pc after some minutes of playing (I unnistalled the games and reinstall them and nothing).
The rest of the Apps are working properly and I do have a lot installed.
The situation is pretty wierd because everything seems to be fine but the previous errors means that is not.
I want to avoid to reinstall windows as it is a long process and this pc is for work, games are part of the freetime options :)
Chkdsk, no errors.
Memory test, no errors.
Please can you help me to figure it out what is going on here?
Any advice will be very helpful as I have read all the forums and tech helps I have found around and I don't know what to do next.
Attached are the cbs log (was there already in the cbs folder) and the checksur log that the rediness tool created.
System:WIn7 64bit SP1, 12gb Ram, quadro4000.
cheers,

Juan Caraballo

Looks like you've thrown everything at it but the kitchen sink! LOL

When a computer gets that far gone, I do a system recovery and be done with it!

However, if that's not an option. We could try some other methods. But, I warn you they could also get time consuming.

So, this is why I suggest an OS reinstall.

Thank you for your reply Sub Zero55,

Yes, I know that my OS is now pretty sick!

System restore only have two images and both are from within the period of problems so that is not an option.

And before going to an OS reinstall I do prefer to heard about the other methods if there are any.

Btw, I do have scanned everything with trend micro antovirus, malware, etc and nothing!

cheers,

jc

If you had a Rootkit infection you would never fix it. And if you recovered off the recovery partition you'd get reinfected. You must use the installation disk for a clean install. Well, that covers a Rootkit.

You could have missing of corrupted system root files. Reinstall, in that case.

Have you tried running malware cleaners in safe mode?

I think you said, you already tried repair install. We usually run it 3 times.

Did you try running in selective startup or diagnostic mode in msconfig?

Have you checked Event Viewer?

Have you checked Task manager?

I'll be shutting down soon. But, I'm sure one of our other members will see your post and continue to assist you.

Hi, I try to run trend micro on safe mode but I wasn't able to achieve it :( looks like that soft doesnt like safe mode or I dont know how to do it.

I have tried repair install many times before but as I stated before the system said that there is nothing to repair as the pc is booting normally and repair system looks like is intended to work only on non booting OS.

I did run diagnostic startup and everything is as in normal startup: no sfc available (it said that it could not start the repair service), empty windows updates, empty windows features.

In the event viewer appers to be many errors but to be honest I do not know what to do with those reports.

And the task manager looks normal, no wierd apps or services running as far as I can tell that I guess is not that much.

Thank you for your reply, hopefully someone else will help as well.

cheers

I am confused. You speak of repair install, but what you are actually trying to accomplish is a startup repair. A repair install is a different method, and is probably the one that should be carried out. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html Windows 7 will allow you to re-install the operating system without losing your data or programs. You will need an installation disc for your licensed version of Windows (Windows 7 Professional 64-bit). You can find the ISO at latest official Win7 installer ISO with SP1 for your licensed version.

Hi writhziden!

Thank you for your comments, you are right, I was reviewing that today and I notice that the option I was trying was startup repair and that was useless as there are no issues during SO boot.

Thanks a lot for the links to the ISO image for the win7pro SP1 as well as for Brink's tutorial on how to do a Repair Install.

I am downloading now the ISO image and I will be making this right away.

Hopefully I will came back here with good news.

Thanks a lot for your help.

cheers,

Hi, well no good news...

I have try repair install and is not working either.

The installer get stuck when trying to get updates and the progress bar just keep going endlessly and never move forward to the next step (sc2) (I wait for more than an hour like that).

Then I try the second option, going straigh away without updates and the installer stops in the 2 step and ask me to restart the pc (sc1) (I repeat that procedure 4 times and that error came up always).

I am guessing that something has to be wrong with how windows is managing actual and pending updates and that's why it get stuck in that process, it is like windows doesn't know what is installed and what isn't (sc3 and sc4 are the updates history, some of them appears there) but when going into "currently installed updates" there is nothing... (that's what I was talking about in my first post).

At least I am sure now that even repair install is not working. (((

I am preparing myself for the worst (clean install) but hopefully you have a way to avoid it.

I Look forward new tricks before going there and thank you already for all your help.

cheers,

jc

Hi, the automatic fix did not work, I was again stuck at the "searching for updates" step in repair install.

Then I go for the manual fix and I do follow numbers 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7 and 9 (not 8 because I have win7) and there were a lot of BITS files that can't be reregistered (sc6 shows respective errors and cmd 1 and 2 show the process).

I will stop here for now because it is very late here ))) but early tomorrow I guess that I will have to go for the step 4 (the hardfix) and see what happen.

I'll let you know results asap.

Thanks again for all your help, this looks like a very tricky repair (if it can be done)!!

cheers,

jc

Hi, well the hardfix didn't work either.

As you can see in the attached files (sc8 and cmd4) I am receiving errors and it is not possible to reset WU components properly.

On step 4 I wasn't able to rename the catroot2 folder so I proceed without renaming that one.

Normal WU is not working now (it was before) as it keep checking for updates and never came with something.

Inside repair install both options are not working either (with and without updates).

Any other option to go for :) ?

cheers

Hi, just a quick comment, It looks like WU was able to detect pending updates but it wasn't able to download them. (sc9).

It looks like something is going on with the download process (the same inside the repair install attemps)

cheers,
