Many Updates Failed

Hi Guys

Just installed windows 7 service pack 1 with no problems but after my system restarted my task bar said updates installed successfully click here to see what was installed.

Now when i click in the update history it tells me around 70 seperate updates have failed to install. Now this is a new install of windows tht i only upgraded to on Monday night. Is this normall or can anyone provide me with a fix

Try to delete windows temporary updates and restart Your PC.

Delete files from the Windows Update folder

On the Windows desktop, double-click My Computer, double-click drive C, double-click the Program Files folder, and then double-click the WindowsUpdate folder.
Click the V4 folder, click Edit, click Invert Selection, and then press DELETE.

Note If you cannot find the V4 folder, click Edit, click Select All and then press DELETE. Skip steps 3 and 4.
Double-click the V4 folder.
Click the Iuhist.xml file, click Edit, click Invert Selection, and then press DELETE.

Remove the Windows Update ActiveX controls

Click Start, then click Search, and then click For Files or Folders. Search for files named Iuctl.dll and Iuengine.dll.
If these files are found in the C:\Windows\System32\Dllcache folder, delete them.
If these files are found in any other folder, other than C:\Windows\System32, delete them.
After you have deleted all other copies of these files, delete them from the C:\Windows\System32 folder.
Visit the Windows Update Web site to install new copies of the ActiveX controls.

i may being silly but tht link only has resoultions for windows ME and 98?

There is no windows update folder in program files?

Right i searched around and found how to delete tempary update files in windows 7 and restared still my update manager says about the same amount of updates have failed?

Is there anyway i can reinstall these one or a few at a time?

We need to see why and which updates are failing to install. BTW, there should not be 70 updates that need to be installed after SP1 is.

Please try another attempt at updating from Control Panel > Windows Update > click the Check for updates link in the left frame.

If/when updating fails again, copy and paste the last 50 to 70 lines of the WindowsUpdate.log into your reply, please -

Try to "reinstall" Windows7 using your Windows7 DVD.

To start reinstall, insert the "Windows 7 DVD" and restart your PC. Press any key to boot from the DVD and Windows 7 will load the set up files. In the first step select the language and country and then click next. In the next screen select the option click "Install" then choose "Upgrade".

But don't choose "Custom" then your existing windows will remove and install windows7 again. Then you have to again activate windows. Its not good thing so choose "Upgrade".

Upgrade=> This option replaces your current version of Windows with Windows 7, and keeps your files, settings, and programs in place on your computer.

if i check for updates windows says there is only 2 upates available and they are optional.

the last 5 or so updates tht i have installed have gone through no problem was it cause it tryed to install so many updates then installed SP1??

Re your update settings -
* I suggest you change them to notify you but let you choose when to download them.
* Do a few at a time only rather than "oodles" at once.

* Always make sure you have a current system restore point prior to downloading anything.

* Sometimes in order to get updates to install properly, you may need to do them manually.

* Visit Microsoft's Download Center:
Microsoft Download Center: Search Results

* Search for each update code. {starts with the letters "KB" and followed by a set of numbers.}
* Click the link for the download.
* Click Download and Run.
* You'll need to accept the agreement and then click Continue.
* Repeat this process for each download that Windows Updates was unable to install.
* Run Microsoft update again, click Check for updates. Hopefully it will show that you are completely patched.

When SP1 is applied via Windows Update there are prerequisite updates that must be installed before it's even offered.
There are updates that should be installed prior to SP1's installation that are intended to prevent known issues that the installation of SP1 causes.
And, then there are updates for the servicing stack that are aimed for the installation and uninstallation of future Service Packs and updates for Windows 7.

After spending some time pondering your mention of many updates being offered to your system after the installation of SP1 ... I would think those are mostly Language Packs.

cheers for the advice i will run through the steps above. The updates tht have failed doesnt seem to be causeing any negative effect on my PC or the installation of updates as i said any new updates now are installing fine
