i hook up my external HD and it will not show up

Mass Storage Controller with the yellow !

i tried updateing but couldnt find anything

any help?

i also tried to reinstall the Intel_Matrix_v.8.5.0.1032_Vista_all drivers from gateway

they will install

i will restart, it will locate the drive as plugged into usb. it will show that its installing drivers

then said there was problem installing

and the yellow exclamation is back

Did you try Vista Compatability mode?

Right click, run as admin, install as Vista compat mode

u mean right click on the driver installer and run it as admin? i did that and it did not give me option for vista compatibility mode

wait i got it to do compatability, i will try and get back to u all

still did not work, i ran it as Windows Vista, and then windows suggested Windows XP SP2 and stil did not work

so i got it installed and driver updated but my external drive is still not showing up

it shows on the "safely remove hardware" thing but not on MY Computer

Some things just want to be difficult! Trial & Error till we get it right

It seems it's still unpartitioned. left click computer , click manage, Disk management under storage. and check there if there are unpartitioned drives.

ah its unpartitioned, it shows up in the management but with no title
