Hello,

I finally got my Acer 9300 running on W7 x32, though Acer says it cannot be done. The only (small) problem that remains is the mass storage dirver (i.e. SD Card reader). The Vista drivers as supplied by Acer are for some reason not working on W7. They give the announcement, that they are not compatibel with the present OS. I think Acer really wants you to buy a new laptop, rather than upgrading an old one. So I either need to modify the Acer driver .inf file or get a third party driver. Does anybody know where to find this driver? It could have been posted earlier on this forum, but I could not find it.

Greetings,

Vista drivers should work if they are installed in compatibility mode.

(right click the installer>properties>compatibility mode>choose OS)

Let us know if that doesnt help

Your card reader was manufactured by Texas Instruments (TI) and that is verified when you look in the Vista driver downloads on ACER's website. I looked around and I did not find any Seven drivers for the card reader which is used by a few of the OEM's. IF the card reader is the only issue you could buy an external USB reader that will work just fine with Seven.

Thank you for your help. Installing the Vista driver in the compatability mode worked. However Acer only provides a Nvidia chipset package for the 9300, which contains an Ethernet driver and a SMU driver whatever that may be. So no help for the card reader. I found a W7 cardreader on the Aspire 8350 package but that one is for Realtek, so does not work either. If somebody knows a Vista / W7 for the TI reader it might do the job. As I do have several USB cardreaders it not a real problem, but it just has become a challenge to get everything working. Greetings, Dave

I found a Vista x32 SD cardreader driver on one the Acer Aspire 9810 that installed and works OK. The reader reads SD cards up to 2 GB. It does not work on SDHC cards however, but that seems to be a common problem with internal cardreaders. My Compaq / HP desktop has the same problem and for this purpose I bought some external readers. The best results until now are coming from a ZOLID USB2.0 60in1 cardreader, that has no problems with SDHC cards of any brand. Again thank you for your help!
Kind regards,
Dave
