I recently bought a 32" LCD TV to use as my monitor, it seems my resolution will be limited by the TV being 1080p (?)

It looks great but I would like a little more real estate...my video card is the Nvida 8800GTS, and I connect via a DVI to HDMI cable.

At work I upgraded a computer connected to a 32" TV and the Nvida graphics card (Quadro 600) transmits sound via the video cable, On my home system I can enable that feature (in software) but it doesn't work. I'm guessing my video card, being older doesn't support that.

Any comments on this, or your experience using a TV as a monitor + or - are welcome.

Found another post that seems to answer that I can't get any higher resolution, still welcome your comments, thanks.

All the TV's I've had, including my 3D only go to a maximum of 1920 x 1080. This was with the same video card you have. I have also had a GTX260 and now a GTX460 in the same PC.

To get sound through your video card you may have to connect a SPDIF cable from your motherboard or soundcard to the video card. This is so the audio can be sent over HDMI, if I understand it correctly.

However, you may be experiencing the same problem I'm having with digital audio to my Receiver. I can currently only get analogue sound into my receiver.

I've seen a few people turn their TV speakers off because they connect their components to a receiver, but if you want sound out of the TV you have to have TV speaker turned on. (In this case you would have the vol set to 0 so you don't get echo).

Also, if you have your SPDIF cable connected to your video card (can't remember if the 8800gts has this facility, but the gtx260 onwards certainly does), then make sure you set your digital output as your default audio, and not your speakers.
