Hi,

I have a problem with my 1TB external HDD in windows 7. I am able to read it in my Windows XP laptop but for some reason I can't read it in my Windows 7 laptop.

Windows 7 is able to recognize the partitions but not the contents.

Can anyone please spare some thoughts on this?

Thanks

Does it have a drive letter assigned to it - go to control panel - administrative tools - computer management - disk management - right click the drive and select - change drive letters and paths . If this doesnt work post back a picture of diskmanagement - http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/9733-how-post-screenshot-seven-forums.html
Also add your system specs

This is good advice,
also check if it is recognised in device manager on Win7.
- From the start globe access RUN and type devmgmt.msc to open
- FYI: In addition to Whest's post above diskmgmt.msc will get you into the Disk Management Console.

On XP, you can plug it in and do a complete checkdisk. Right click on the disk, go to properties, tools tab, Check Now. If it won't let you because the drive is in use, open a CMD prompt and type CHKDSK /R /X L: where 'L' is your drive letter (e.g. To check the C drive, type CHKDSK /R /X C:), the /X switch forces a dismount first.

Check if it's a wattage issue, by unplugging all other external devices before you plug it into Win7 an see if this works.

Swap the cable if you have a spare and try another USB port as well.

Good luck and let us know how you went.
