Improvements and fixes

This security update includes improvements and fixes that were a part of update KB4015552 (released April 18, 2017) and also resolves the following:

• Addressed issue where, after installing security update KB4015549, applications that use msado15.dll stop working.
• Updated Internet Explorer 11’s New Tab Page with an integrated newsfeed.
• Deprecated SHA-1 Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer 11 for SSL/TLS Server Authentication. See Advisory 4010323 for more information.
• Security updates to Internet Explorer, Microsoft Graphics Component, Windows COM, Microsoft ActiveX, Windows Server, Windows kernel, and Microsoft Windows DNS.

Known issues in this update

Symptom
If the PC uses an AMD Carrizo DDR4 processor, installing this update will block downloading and installing future Windows updates.

Workaround
Microsoft is working on a resolution and will provide an update in an upcoming release.

More Information

• This Monthly Rollup update does not include security fixes for Internet Explorer. In order to obtain the security fixes for Internet Explorer, the Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer KB4018271 should also be installed. Note that the Security Monthly Quality Rollup does contain security updates for Internet Explorer.
• If you use update management processes other than Windows Update and you automatically approve all security updates classifications for deployment, the May 2017 Security-Only Quality Update KB4019263, the May 2017 Security Monthly Quality Rollup KB4019264, and the Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer KB4018271 are deployed. We recommend that you review your update deployment rules to make sure the desired updates are deployed.

I haven't made any updates in over an year, since the stupid Win10 was forced upon users. Attaching my screenshots for the updates pending on my list. First one is Recommended, second one is Optional. I had removed auto update back then.

Can anyone suggest or point out, which ones to leave out. I have absolutely no interest in Win 10 & any other which would cause performance issues for my specs.

Do rollups include upgrade to Win-10 ? ... and I am not too sure what rollups represent ?

I have a Lenovo laptop e540 purchased in Aug 2015 with Win-7PRO (sp1) x64 ... only unpacked in early April-2017 (5 to 6 weeks ago) due to my ongoing health issues and my fear of losing Win-7.

I have looked at MS17-010: Security update for Windows SMB Server: March 14, 2017
- I assume MS17-010 is for servers ?

I know the Lenovo needs a major OS update ... but what can I do in the mean time to minimize the risk with the current climate of "WanaCryptor" ?

Do I have to install all rollups, OR is the last rollup sufficient for my Win-7 PRO x64 ?

The optional upgrade offer to windows 10 has long finished for qualifying Operating systems

Microsoft has also released a free update for the obsolete Windows XP and Windows 8 to protect against the recent ransomware pandemic. ("KB4012598")


Windows 7 and 8.1 are safe from the update if fully patched, latest rollup should be enough as they are cumulative

Windows 10 does not have the Vulnerability, (weakness), that was used by the ransomware

The windows 7 & 8.1 update is included in the last roll-up, and windows 10 is not vulnerable to the threat, so unless you are running Vista or XP or one of the old server builds then these do not apply
