may i burn the ISO on two CDs?

aw well i know it might be silly but i do not have a DVD burner so i was thinking if i can burn it on two cds?

EDIT: if not on cds please tell me how to install direct from .iso file using virtual drives

Unfortunately not, the best option is to extract the files to your HD & do an upgrade or to an external source (HD or flash drive) and clean install from there.

It won't resume, when burning it will assume you are going to use a 5.4GB dvd +/-R so wont allow for spanning. I don't know if there are apps available that will do the spanning but it might be worth BINGing 'ISO spanning' or similar.

There is a way to do it on2 cd's but its kind of complicated. what about running it from a USB thumb edrive?

i googled if i can do it but to no avail the answer to the question every where was "You can divide the contents relatively easily, but the problem is that the Windows installer will still expect all of the files to be present on one disc, something you can not change. As a result, it will search for a file, not find it, and error out instead of prompting you to install Disc 2."

along with that i also read somewhere that when vista was finally released they released it in cds too so ppl with CD-ROM could get it as well so it might happen the same with windows 7.

That would have been a scaled down version @ only 1.3GB and the ISO is 3GB+ for x86. If i think of anything i'll let you know.

why not D/L W7, & mount it virtually (powerISO / magicISO), & install that way..??

i dont see why this wont work while running XP....

Hi tassan,

First you need to make a partition for it - 20gb minimum - more is better - format as ntfs.

Then download PowerIso - the free ( unregistered ) version is fine.

PowerISO - Create, Edit, Extract, Mount, Compress, Encrypt, Split ISO file, ISO/BIN converter, Virtual Drive, DAA

Open PowerIso, set 1 virtual drive, mount the 7 .iso.





Then click Start Orb > Computer - the new virtual drive will be there - rt click it and select "install or run program from your media".

i did as you said with a freshly downloaded .iso file which gave me this error while installing
"Windows cannot copy files required for installation. The files may be corrupt or missing. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation. Error code: 0x80070241"

i tried to install from same .iso in a virtual pc and it was fine but when expanding files was done 25% it gave me same error with different error number.

I don't know what resources you have available, but have you considered upgrading your hardware just a bit.

For desktop computers, how about a new internal DVD burner? One, with decent reviews can be had for $25USD (+ s/h) - Newegg.com - DVD-R Burner, DVD Burner, CD Burner, CD/DVD Burners, CD-R/CDRW Burner, DVD-R/DVD-RW Burners

You have a lappie? In like fashion, external USB burners can be had starting at $50USD.

Just a thought but it might be worth considering as software is getting larger and larger all the time and it may not be too much longer before getting software on CD will become difficult.

For what its worth, I suggest you go out and buy a replacement DVD drive for your CD drive and all your troubles will disappear.

There are some types of burner software that will span automatically, but I doubt your CD drive is up to that level of sophistication.
Also, Microsoft may have locked the copy style so you have to burn as one. Usually best with an ISO image.

I just installed a new DVD/cd/Blue Ray Sata drive with free software for A$63.00. It is a Pioneer, quick and trouble free and can handle 8.5 GB DL disks, R of course. Can't wait for the new R/W's to get into the shops.
