Solved MBAM 3 Totally Useless Now

MBAM used to be great but the new MBAM 3 is horrible.

The Phone GUI is yet another one of the useless abominations that are all the rage these days.
It refuses to run without it's 24/7 pointless service and it takes at least a minute to start.

Those issues aside, it used to run scans on my machine.

The last few days I've noticed that the scans have stopped working.

When I run a scan it:

• Checks for updates
• Checks the memory
• Finishes

It never scans the SSD or HDDs.
I tried uninstalling and then reinstalling it, but the issue persists.

Has anyone else had this problem?

I've read that malware can break AV programs, however Avast isn't reporting any issues.
I haven't run a Boot scan yet as this take >6 hours on my PC.

Peter, a lot of people have been reporting issues on Ten Forums. They have several threads. I've also experienced issues on my machines as well (7 and 10.) I don't know if it will help but Malwarebytes recommends using their cleaning tool to get rid of all remnants of 3.0 before you try to reinstall. Personally, I'm sticking with 2.2.1.1043 until it's no longer supported (supposedly June 2017.) Maybe most of the bugs will be fixed by then.

Yep before using the cleaning tool make sure to Deactivate the key first
I'm sticking to 2.2..... also

I've got other problems caused by the Win 10 creators upgrade, but MBAM 3 does not seem to be a problem. I don't have Win 7 anymore so I can't say how it would work for me on Win 7.

I have two computer and I use Malwarebytes 3.0 on both. MSE runs active at the same time on both systems.
I have two lifetime Malwarebytes.
All I did to up upgrade to 3.0 was install it over the top of 2.0.
It picked up my License I.D. and Key and installed without problems.

To get a complete scan.

If it is causing problems for other people, then maybe it's not a malware issue in my PC.
Avast is a little twitchy at the moment too, but the Boot Time scan and Quick scans run.

I regret installing MBAM version 3.
I should have kept version 2, as that worked great and it didn't need a totally useless 24/7 service.

I ran an Avast Boot Time scan, just long enough to check my OS partition and the partition with the page file.
It found a couple of broken archives and the latest CCleaner installer had become corrupted, but nothing else.

@marsmimar, thanks for the links and the tip about the cleaning tool.
I still have the old version (2.2.1.1043) in my download archives (I installed the new version because I assumed the previous versions would stop receiving updates).

@Layback Bear, I have tried creating a Custom scan, but it behaved exactly the same as the other scans.

I to have had no luck with the V3 mbam.
I have tried 3 times on different versions and after a re-boot my pc is totally non responsive.
My wife's is the same.
We have life activation so I hope they sought it out soon.

Thanks guys.
I used the MBAM cleaning tool and then reinstalled old version (2.2.1.1043).


It starts in ~5 seconds and I can run scans again.
Nothing suspicious was detected.

It's very strange how 3.0 works on so many system and doesn't work on others.

I have one computer that will run TFC by Old Timer with Malwarebytes 3.0 but yet the other system will not run TFC by Old Timer while 3.0 is installed. It locks the system and I have to use the tower button to shutdown and then restart.

I haven't figured that one out yet. Computer do strange things at times.

It's very strange how 3.0 works on so many system and doesn't work on others.

I always found it strange that a lot of people had weird problems with Firefox.


Other than the stupidly long start up time, MBAM 3 was working.

I think that the last update broke it on my machines.

When I checked my other PC, it couldn't even draw the interface correctly (the progress animation wasn't rendered at all). Scans were broken too.

Never had a single issue with MBAM 3 on either Win 7 SP1 Home Premium or Win 10 Home. I run this simultaneously with MSSE with no issues.

Some people don't seem to have any problems with it.

However, I've seen plenty of complaints about MBAM 3 and they usually match my experience:

• Useless 24/7 Service
• Ridiculous 30 second to 60 second startup time

MBAM 2 doesn't display either of those issues.


If the company purges those responsible for MBAM 3, I might consider installing MBAM 4 (assuming the MBAM 3 debacle doesn't wipe them out).

To me a few seconds on boot does not over ride the security advantage of Malwarebytes 3.0.

I have '3.0' on two machines and have notice a few seconds more when booting.
No big deal as far as I'm concerned.

A minute is not a few seconds.

I used MBAM 3 from January to the end of April (despite the stupidly long startup time).

Updating itself to a non-functional state was the final straw.

I did a brief search and I found people were still complaining about the same issues, so I didn't bother.

In my opinion, MBAM shouldn't have fixed something that wasn't broken in the first place.

If MBAM now promotes itself as an AV replacement, they should subject themselves to an independent and impartial testing (AV Comparatives) of their product like the rest of the security software that's on the market.

I am pleased to say that I have six licenses and have no problems.

BUT I had lots of problems at the beginning.

Stay with it guys and gals.

All 3 versions were uninstalled

I tried a trial version on all three of my win 7 systems (2 ultimate 1 pro) with all updates and patches. All three machines corrupted their respective system restores, timed to MWAM installation. It was over a week of not knowing, and when found on one laptop I traced it to MBAM. I then tried a restore on the other 2, same issue. Tech support (two weeks worth) could not duplicate, so I uninstalled from all 3 and never looked back. All 3 running MSE without problems again. Very disappointed MBAM did this corruption of sys restore. Don't know where the source of the problem was, but if installing MBAM brought it to the surface, then MBAM had to go.
