Solved MBAM 3 Totally Useless Now

Update

I was forced to upgrade to MBAM v3.1.2.1733 a couple of days ago.

Surprisingly this version seems to work correctly on my PC.
It takes ~5 seconds to start, as opposed to the 30-60 seconds that MBAM 3.0.x.xxxx took.
The scans also seem to be working correctly.

The only "issue" is the pointless 24/7 service that it requires (compared to MBAM v2.x.x.xxxx).

Are you comparing Mbam 2 free with the 14 Day default of the full version of Mbam 3? as that would "need" 24/7 service for 24/7 auto protection ?

I also don't know what (24/7) has to do with the new version.

I use the 3.1 version and have no problems. My system never run 24/7.

Please explain.

Mbam 3 free initially came as a short 14 day package of the full service with only a hidden opt out - it would revert to the limited free version if you didn't fall for the suggestions that you upgrade to the full paid version - not sure about later ones as I had enough of the problems so switched to something more reliable

Well, I'm having a problem with MBAM 3. After occasional reboots (it doesn't happen every time I reboot), the malware protection will be turned off and the only way to get it to turn back on is to shut down MBAM and restart it. I run my computer 24/7 since I things going on at night when I'm (supposed to be ) sleeping, such as MBAM scans and recording OTA TV. I have my computer set to automatically reboot three times a week during the wee hours so, when MBAM decides to disable malware protection, it could be a few hours (when I wake up) to a few days (if I'm out of town) before I detect the problem so this is unacceptable! Anyone have any idea how I can fix this? I have the latest version.

Maybe an on start-up scheduled task to close and restart mbam 3 at each reboot, maybe delayed a set time. Ok it won't be needed every time the system is booted bit its a lot better than not having protection running. It's also easier that checking mbam status everytime

Thanks! I thought about that but I would prefer a cure to the problem, not just the symptom. Still, it's a good Plan B to look into.

LOL! I've had many projects that had so many problems, I almost ran out of letters with which to name the backup plans. At least I haven't had to fall back on Plan 9...

I'm running MBAM v3.1.2.xxxx (Free) now.

MBAM v2.x.x.xxxx (Free) didn't require this:

Lots of software that used to work "properly", now apparently need to run 24/7 services or it doesn't run correctly.

Obviously real time protection/scanning does need a 24/7 service.
Apart from that, the only real reasons I can see for most of these services is:

• IP theft
• As a prelude to Cloud only versions

The more of this junk that is running on a system, the more vulnerable that system becomes.

It also makes it more difficult to notice suspicious processes.

It seems that Malwarebytes might be causing a lot more problems than we realise. I had replied to Post earlier concerning Drag & Drop failing to hold the Drag, which I thought may have been a mouse problem. The OP has replied & the problem disappeared after he uninstalled Malwarebytes & installed a earlier version.

Below is what I posted back to the OP in that thread concerning Malwarebytes.

"It's interesting that you found that Malwarebytes was really the problem. I was having odd problems with my computer like Windows Updates frequently failing, Windows Explorer crashing occasionally for no reason & a general slowdown of the system even with an SSD, so I uninstalled Malwarebytes & all the problems have disappeared."

In fact the computer runs so much better that I am very reluctant to install Malwarebytes again, even though I was using the free version.

I don't use the Free version, so I really don't know how it reacts to anything.

Why would one expect not to see Malwarebytes exe. in Task Manager/Processes. If Malwarebytes is active that is normal I believe.

FWIW, I've been having the same and more problems on my 7 and 10 machines. I decided to keep 2.1.1.1043 for as long as possible since it's still getting regular database updates. Just as a reminder, if you don't want to get updated to v3.X.X make sure you leave the update option "Check for program updates..." unchecked. This should prevent an involuntary program update at least for now.

Check that setting frequently. Mine got unchecked by itself a while back and I had to put up with upgrade notices until I decided to pull the trigger and upgrade (more like downgrade) because there are no longer any guarantees that 2.x will continue to get database updates.

2.2.1.1043 I would expect to see the mbam service and scheduler services running as well as the tray application running too if that points to the action center icon showing it is on and running otherwise mbam would be useless to have around
