MC vs DVR

I recently got a high def LCD tv to upgrade my old projection TV. I'm using MC as a DVR and can watch broadcast HD channels over cable since they are unencrypted.

In order to watch all of the HD channels (CNN HD, HGTV HD, History HD, etc) I need to get a set top box, or DVR. The DVR is $5 more a month than the plain set top box, so its a good value.

Anyways, what are the pros and cons of MC vs cable company DVR? I have a DVD player that plays xvids.

My new TV does Netflix streaming really well.

Thanks,
Bill

You have a copy on your PC which you can then convert or edit to your liking and put onto any device you own within reason; with a DVR you're stuck with it on your box unless you burn it to a DVD and then reinport it to your PC manually a long a degrading (in both senses of the word) process made even more difficult when you consider how much a Bluray burner would cost and how much a Bluray drive for your PC to rip it to would add aswell.

If you just want to watch recorded TV on your TV then a DVR would be fine but for anything more than that WMC is the way to go.

This is of course just my opinion putting spin on the facts.
