Avid media center user for many years... spent most of last week upgrading XP MCE to Windows 7 (Professional) and troubleshooting.

After install/updates etc (see configuration below) I've found system WAY too slow (CPU near 100%) when running 1 media center session (over xbox360 extender or PC) and more than 1-2 recordings. Offending processes that spike CPU are ehshell.exe & ehrecvr.exe. ehvid.exe. With just recordings happening in background and no media center interface running (pc or xbox extender) CPU does ~20% (4 simultaneously recordings).

On XP MCE using same hardware I could easily have 4 extenders running + 4 simultaneous recordings with no performance issue.

Extensions: my channel logos, macrotube, McShoutCast, mediacenterstudio

Hardware:
- Intel Pentium 2.66GHz dual core
- 3Gb RAM
- Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GT 220
- Motherboard: Asus P5LD2
- 2X Hauppauge NOVA-T-500-MCE Dual (latest newmagic drivers) - last drivers installed
- 4 Xbox 360 media center extenders around home

Any assistance with reinstating our family tradition of enjoying our media center in the home would be fondly appreciated.

Having built two HTPC boxes with lesser hardware, I'm not sure what the problem is you are having. My wife's MC box is a 2 GHz dual core with an ATI video controller and can record four HD shows without breaking a sweat. I also had a HTPC I built with a 1.8 GHz Atom dual-core and ION GPU that could handle six HD recording with some effort, but it worked.

What I didn't have were the XBOX 360 media extenders. Maybe they need a lot of juice. I now do have one XBOX 360 media extender, but it's pulling from a more powerful i5 powered HTPC with six HD tuners.

Bye.
