I tried HiJackThis, but it didn't work. I removed the add-ons such as Google Toolbar, from Internet Explorer, though, and I think it's working fine now. I tried a sfc scan and windows resource protection did not find any integrity violations.

So if everything works now without crashing that's definitely good news. Suspicious tho is, that HijackThis doesn't run. Try to rename the HijackThis.exe to something random like xyz123.exe or even notepad3.exe and see if it runs then.

Internet Explorer is crashing when I visit detailed websites with a lot of ads. I tried HiJackThis and gave a list of programs, but I couldn't get a log file because it couldn't find a HiJackThis file on the computer. I used McAfee virtual technician to check McAfee for errors and it updated its DAT status.

That's nothing to really worry about. It just shows that there are still components of the google toolbar lingering in your system and/or registry. That's something, HijackThis would have taken care of. Next time you have to uninstall something like that, use
Download Revo Uninstaller Freeware - Uninstall software, remove programs, solve uninstall problems

For now let's try something differen...get Ccleaner:
Piriform - Standard

Uncheck the 2 checkboxes about Chrome during install
Once started click on registry and uncheck everything instead of Application path, Installer, Obsolete Software and MUI Cache.
Click on Scan for issues and uncheck everything that is unrelated to google toolbar, google installer etc. Click "Fix selected issues" and have CCleaner save a backup when it asks. That should do the trick.

Is CCCleaner safe to use? I don't want to damage the registry by accident.

That's why I said to uncheck most options. Set a restore point before you start. and hace Ccleaner save a backup
Any luck with HijackThis so far? That one really buggs me :D

I think HiJackThis isn't working because it can't find the host file. McAfee is doing some updates at the moment.

Oh is that what it says??? you mean the message about the hosts file? Like this:

View attachment 113801

just ignore that...the problem at hand has nothing to do with the hosts file.Have the scan run and post the log file...just don't have the program fix anything before I had a chance to look over it.

After running a scan of HiJackThis, notepad comes up but a message says "Cannot find the C:\Program Files (x86)\Trend\Micro\HiJackThis\hijackthis.log file. Do you want to create a new file?" I try creating a new file, but nothing appears in notepad.

OK...simple problem: the program has no write-clearance for its installation directory.
Right Click the EXE and "Run as Administrator"

I got HiJackThis working and have attached the log file. I think there is a conflict between programs, as my computer's fan is on constantly now. I unistalled Dell Support Center via Programs and Features. I also uninstalled Google Toolbar, so I think it's those uninstallations that are causing the computer problems.

OK..it doesn't really look bad. the only entry I could find that doesn't have to be there is this one:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {02478D38-C3F9-4efb-9B51-7695ECA05670} - (no file)

Seems to point to some Yahoo Toolbar. Since you have a restore point..if you want to delete it... check that one (and ONLY that one) and then click the Fix Button.

Is everything else okay? Thanks for your help. The computer's fan is still on constantly so there must be other problems as well. I think dell support center shouldn't be there as I uninstalled it a few days ago.

The fan is on...OK, basically that's a good thing the CPU generates heat and needs to be cooled from the moment you start the computer.
What's the problem? is it too loud? If so..is it running full speed constantly? In that case there might be a setting in the BIOS.
Don't worry about the CCleaner if you don't intend to use it, don't install it
On the other hand it's much safer than all the other One click cleaners out there. Just leave the registry alone and don't click on things you don't (yet) understand and you're golden.

The fan is working normally, but it used to stop now and then. Now it doesn't stop at all. If Dell Support Center and cccleaner are on the list, do they need to be removed because I unstalled DSC and cancelled the installation of ccleaner.

you mean this
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [dellsupportcenter] "C:\Program Files (x86)\Dell Support Center\bin\sprtcmd.exe" /P dellsupportcenter

and this

O16 - DPF: {49312E18-AA92-4CC2-BB97-55DEA7BCADD6} (WMI Class) - http://support.dell.com/systemprofiler/SysProExe.CAB

It's save to leave them alone but you can delete them if they give you any grieve.
The Ccleaner has no entry in that list (the list holds mainly registry entries about drivers and other stuff that gets automatically loaded i.e so called "Browser Help Objects"..ccleaner does no such thing) so there is nothing to do here.
