McAfee Continues to Harm WinPatrol Users

Two weeks ago McAfee changed one of their signature files and it started to tell all their customers our WinPatrol setup programs was a dangerous Trojan named Artemis!4FAE1D776481. A week ago I finally found the correct procedure to submit my file and report their “false-positive” error. I was told by an automated Email that their test was inconclusive and the file was being sent to Bangalore India for more research.

Bill re-created the WinPatrol setup program by purchasing a new install package called Tarma InstallMate 7. McAfee not does report a false problem with this new setup. If you are still a McAfee user, you can download the new installation file from BillP Studios Download Page.

Even better if you pay $3.00 for the windows disk when you order one from the factory, then wipe the HDD and reinstall windows as soon as you take it out of the box. It's not even worth letting it boot to the factory image

It's not in there anymore...or ever again in anything I own

The College I go to has McAfee and they've had a virus and a worm they can't get rid of since I started classes last year. Go figure....

The company PCs are secure, not because of McAfee, but because of the strong sonic firewall and websense which blocks most websites.

In addition, please be aware that removal of OEM McAfee is quite simple. Add/Remove + a run with MCPR.EXE and it's gone.

Update: Bill Pytlovany posted elsewhere that Steven Burn, who manages the website www.it-mate.co.uk, was helpful in getting a response from McAfee. After over two weeks, this has finally been resolved.

I got that by going to the Dell website and trying to find a current Dell that didn't come with at least the trial version of McAfee.. You can easily verify my statement by doing the same. I gave up after checking over a dozen different models. Only found a couple high end workstations in the business section that have a "no additional security software installed" option. I even called Dell and tried to order an Inspiron 1545 without McAfee installed.. they said in no uncertain terms that they wouldn't do it.

Also, completely removing McAfee is not as easy as simply uninstalling it. McAfee wouldn't make a removal tool if it weren't necessary.

There is a removal tool for just about all of the A/V software programs. Symantec is actually much more difficult to remove.

It is the business arrangements between the OEMs and the software vendors that lowers the price.
