Hello,

I am presently using MS Security Essentials.
Seems to work fine.

Years ago I tried Norton and McAffee and had all sorts of problems.
Gave up on both. But that was a long time ago.

I have Comcast for my ISP, and they offer McAfee for free.

McAfee has one nice feature apparently, a netwok monitor for usage monitoring.

Actually, it's the only thing I want in the package to use of theirs, if I do
download it.

a. Is it possible with McAffee to just use this netwok monitor portion of it, and have everything else disabled, and just stick with MS Security Essentials for the anti-virus protection ?

b. If Not, they want you to disable all and any other anti-virus programs.
What happens if I leave MS Security Essentials Enabled, and also run McAffee anti-virus protection ?

Thanks,
Bob

I have used Mcafee in the past.
But I can't remember what was the function Network Monitor. :p
Or probably we used different version.

anyway:

A) Yes, as far as I know you can turn off AV real time scanning

B) It may not even allow you to install.
If you run both of them together, they may conflict with each other and make your system unstable and valnurablke
But I wouldn't recommend you to do this.
It's not worth installing whole McAfee and disable it, and run risk of capability, just to use one feature.
You may find another free product which does the same task.

Hello Bob,

Windows has its own network monitor. You can open Task Manager and go to the network tab, or you can go to Resource Monitor. Resource Monitor is more detailed and informative.

Hope this helps,
~Jonathan

Hi,

Suggestions for a truly "simple" one ?

I've looked at one or two, but are a bit complicated for my simple mind.

Thanks,
Bob

From OP: Problems Opening Netmeter.gg (what's "gg" ?)

Hi Tews:

Thanks for suggestion of Netmeter.

I just downloaded it, but W7 is asking for what program to use to open it, as it doesn't recognize it.

The file is I downloaded is called: Netmeter.gg

Probably the .gg it is having problems with.

Suggestions ?

Regards,
Bob
