Hi there.

Is it just me or is the new season for the USA major networks TV going to be the WORST EVER - I haven't seen anything that I really am going to look forward to as the nights draw in and they just seem to CANCEL anything that looks remotely passable without giving it time to develop.

I HATE following a half way decent series and then find it's cancelled after a few episodes in favour of some HIDEOUS reality show or yet another terribly unfunny Sitcom about Metrosexuals in NYC or similar.

I don't think I'll be doing much TV viewing this Winter -- the European schedules also seem to be going down the toilet -- even the BBC seems to have gone totally down market these days.

I've probably READ more books in the last three months than in the Last 6 years - Thank you Kindle !!!!

Definitely enjoyed the books more as well.

(Movies also seem to be going through a drab time - nothing spectacularly new and what there is seems to be always a 2nd or 3rd or even 4th version of a title with the usual result that each new version is far worse than the preceding one).

Has the Human Race lost the power of creativity and imagination -- judging by Hollywood and the US TV Networks it definitely seems to have.

Cheers
jimbo

Personal opinion, I think there is plenty to watch that is entertaining. I find Elementary, Person of Interest and Criminal Minds all pretty cleverly written and inventive. I enjoy the NCIS shows a lot too. The only show that, to me, was cancelled just as it was getting its feet was The Crazy Ones.

Reality is a scourge on TV everywhere. Unfortunately, there are too many dunder heads that prefer stuff they don't have to think while they are watching that keep them going.

I guess I'm just not as picky as some folks. I watch for entertainment and if it does that, to me its good.

:ditto:

Same for me. The one new show I thought was terrible though was gotham. I was so excited but it ended up being crappy.

Your awesome for reading this.
People watch way to much TV. Way to much.
Wait you say, just checked the profile, this guy has a 37" screen. Yeaup, its for htpc dvd's, occasional amazon digital's, commercial free. Ok, and some football. Don't have a subscription to cable or satellite, haven't for over a decade now. Today's media brainwashes people. Remember the economic powers that be and the government for that matter, hates people who think for themselves and make up their own minds.
At work they are remodeling the building workspace. One of the first things to go was the TV in the lunchroom. Thank god, sometimes I would notice how people would be so glued to it, like listening and watching their master. When the 12 o'clock news would come on, these same folks would make sure it was on one 'news' program where they had a 5 minute segment everyday, teaching people how to kiss hollywood @ss. It was disgusting.

I'm trying to figure out how watching a modern iteration of Sherlock Holmes or NCIS "brain washes" me. Are they using subliminal conditioning?

I find TV to be more than mind melting, I prefer educational documentaries, you know, the kind of documentaries that show humans what it's like to live in hard going places, life on other planets, fly on the wall documentaries and the whatnot, much better TV viewing than Big brother or sex and the city junk, or dare i say it, Honey BooBoo.

During the 6 months I am in the US each year I gave up watching TV 10 years ago. The news are pretty useless because they are not independent and the entertainment I don't care about. Besides, I refuse to pay $50 to watch commercials - they should be paying me.

In Germany I have 350 channels from 2 dozen countries for $20. Many of those are commercial free - those are the only ones I watch. I get a balanced political input because I can compare the news of many countries on the same subjects. You have to, of course, know the languages.
