Media center does not remember window position

Hello again!

Day three of 7 Ultimate x64 and, though still getting used to some minor differences from Vista x64, everything is running smoothly!

One "quirk" I seem to have run into though, is media center does not seem to want to remember it's last position like media center in Vista did. I didn't see anything in the settings for this. Is there a way to make it remember it's "home" position?

Thanks for reading!

Russell

by "home" position I'm just referring to the position I last left it on the desktop, for me, I like it in the top left.

First, I am not experiencing this, when I close WMC, it opens where it was last....the only thing I can think of off the top of my head is that you have installed an application that has modified a reg key that is used to recall the position by forcing it off, for example, so that app will run full screen or in a prefered size always...

Do other windows always open in the last view?

Yes, media player classic and vlc both open in the same position I last left them. I've installed very little, only the most basics, since Doing the switch to 7 a few days ago.

I suspect then that either one, or both, or both combined, of those apps have taken control of certain reg keys and it is affecting the operation of WMC.

I will try uninstalling them and see what, if anything, changes. Thanks for the tip. It's a minor thing, but still, it's odd. . .

LOL sometimes, you just don't ask questions. I loaded up media center to add a new recorded tv schedule for today, and it was in the exact position it was when I shut it down yesterday. The only thing I did in-between, I installed DB Power Amp and it's related codecs. Perhaps one of those "fixed" media center? Seems doubtful, but hey. . . whatever works.

Thanks to everyone who offered suggestions.

This is why my preference is to only install well known and tested software, unexpected behavior.

I used VLC going back to the XP days, MPC was fine on Vista, and has been around for years as well, I would certainly call them known and trusted. Ah well, the issue seems to be a non-issue now lol. Such is life.

Actually, I believe I now know what the trick is, while Vista Media Center remembered it's position, if it was partially off the screen, Win7 Media Center does not, if the top or edge is beyond the visible screen, it will not remember that position.

Size does matter.

Has anyone found a reg key that we can add to allow window position saving when border is off screen.

For example: I watch WMC and drag out the sides so i can use it while its not maximized to access the taskbar.
