I have recently upgraded via a clean install from Windows Vista to Windows 7 Home premuim. Now I face a strange problem, I can play audio and video however when I try to play a DVD it throws a screen saying that files needed to play video are not installed and to restart media player or computer.

I have had media player working on this system in vista, so I cant seem to see whaqt the heck is going on here.:shock:

Have downloadedn and tried, Yippy, :D:D:D:D that works, while I was wating I tried disabling Mediacentre and media player and restarting with no luck. Also updated all drivers with the same result, even tried rolling them back to see if that would work but it did not.

so far we have one solution tried and one solution sucessful, lets get this solved.;):D

I think I have found the issue casuing the problem, I installed a temp copy of win 7 home premium and found media player worked but not media centre, I then updated the driver with the one supplied via the website and the problem was created so is there anyway of fixing this as i have tried rollback with no luck

I'm confused, you say WMC wasn't working, you updated a driver (for what?) and now WMP isn't working?
Which website did you download the driver from? Is WMC working now the driver has been updated or are they both broken now?

When you say you tried rolling back, i assume you mean through the device manager?

If that failed, you could always try a system restore.

I will try to explain in step form what I have done:
  1. I created a new partition
  2. installed a new copy of windows 7 home premium
  3. played a dvd in media centre and this failed
  4. played a dvd in media player and this worked
  5. i then installed the driver provided from the nec website and rean the above again this time they both failed
  6. have attempted to uninstall drivers via driver manager with no luck, can't get either to play a dvd
I think there may be residual information or drivers left from the last step so attempting to install a fresh copy of certified drivers may be in vain.

hope this explains it a bit better than before.

Don't know if it helps but I had a problem after an upgrade from Vista Ultimate (on a freshly restored factory image) in that I couldn't get the TV (Freeview) to work.
Although Medai Centre stated that there was a 'Video Problem', it turns out that it was actually an audio one as my sound card wasn't working. As soon as that was sorted I could watch TV!!
