Media Error - Urgent

Hi All,

After almost every 4 days, I receive "media test failure, check cable" error on Lenovo w520 laptop's screen and all my data disappears along with Windows 7 on Western Digital HHD. Please advise me on how can I fix this error forever.

This issue is often caused by either an incorrect setting in BIOS Setup or a bad boot device, such as a bad hard drive.

When you power up the computer, press either F2 or del buttons a few times to bring up the BIOS setup. then navigate through the options.

If your BIOS Setup has an option to boot from the LAN disable this option.
If you have changed any BIOS settings, make sure to save the changes and reboot the computer (usually the last page of the settings, the quick command "save and exit" is usually F10).
If this does not resolve the issue, try resetting the BIOS values to the default settings (there is an option called "reset to default/factory/optimal settings"), save and exit.

IF this does not work, your hard drive seems to be failing.

I don't understand what you are saying.

Try what I told you to, and report again if further problems arise.

If the Lenovo is still under warranty, calling them to have it fully repaired by pros at their expense (the whole point of warranty) is the best thing you can do.

I mean SATA Power & Data Connectors.

on most if not all laptops the hdd is kept inserted in its connectors with a metallic harness and a screw or two, so it does not come loose on its own.

But anyway, if you have easy access (a panel on the back of the laptop), nothing stops you from having a look.
