Media Player 12 Behavior

Several weeks ago I decided to reset WMP and WMC. I went to Windows features and unticked the boxes. No problems. After the reboot Wmp and WMC were unticked and gone from view. I left it that way for a few days and then decided I wanted them back. So off to Windows features ticked the boxes and waited. Oh dear unspecified error message saying not all features were installed......Went to the start menu and there they were. Brought them up listened to some tunes played a video all seemed good. Powered down for the night and noticed some configuring going on but it seemed to finish and shut down. Next day I fire up and when it hit welcome screen more configuring was happening. It made it to 100% and then announced that the Windows updates had failed and went to the desktop. Checked the start menu ad WMP and WMC were gone. I have really tried to resolve this with no luck. Did sfc /scannow all is 100%. Tried it in safe mode with the same result. Tried restore and it failed. So I can use WMP and WMC but I have to start them from features every time. Kind of a pain. This is 7 ULT RTL. If anybody has an idea I sure could use some help! TIA!

Try a repair install. This will fix any errors sfc /scannow didn't or couldn't catch.

Thanks ! I suspect you are right. I have danced with this for too long and it grows old.......

Interesting.....I've disabled and re-enabled Media Center a couple times, and last I knew it would still work for me. It's disabled now though, as I have no use for it.

Hello Outlander,

If a repair as suggested by others doesn't solve this issue, you wrote you could start both from "features", if there both working OK from there, why not just create the shortcuts using the the true .exe files in program files and place them into start menu?

I did try the shortcut method and they disappear on the reboot after the configuring doesn't configure.
