g'day

i am getting a "server execution failed media player" error when trying to play avi's. i have seen a solution to this by stopping the windows media player network sharing service in the serivices tab, i have searched for this in the services list but no such service exists in the list. this problem has only just started recently so its very perplexing. any ideas?

You could install the k-Lite codec pack and choose Windows Media Center rather than Home Cinema.

You can also uninstall Windows Media Plater,. th reboot and re-install.
Go yo Start > Run, and type optionalfeatures. Locate the Windows Media Player and uncheck the box.

yeah i tried that and the "optionalfeatures" window wouldnt close unless i stopped it in the task manager and then when i tried to run it again in the control panel it didnt work, i then went back to the task manager to find the "optionalfeatures.exe" still running in the task manager
