Hi all, and happy new year.
I have Windows 7 Home premium 64 just intalled on my new build.
Pc runs mint with no issues at all, all my programs and applications run 100% fine and super quick.
Only issue i am having is my media player behaves oddly like never before on other systems i had.
When i select a move to play (.avi) the media player pops up in a small window and starts to play it no problem, but when i click to maximize the view, some moves just maximize no problem, some cause this 2 - 3 second black screen to occur before starting in full view mode.
I cant see a difference in any of the .avi files other then some are 23fps and some are 25fps etc but the black screen happens with various fps files so i cant pinpoint the cause.
All the films are on one drive and all played ok on my other pc.
Any ideas anyone ?
Thanks for reading.
Vale.

EDIT

Just to add, if i open in media player classic i dont have the issue so it is a media player issue but what it the difference between the player that comes with W7 and media classic ?
My other pc has W7 ulrimate 64 running on it and it dont have the black screen issue with media player, i am only getting the black screen with W7 Home premium 64 and the player that comes with it. ? luckily i have klite codec pack installed and it has the classic player hence knowing the classic works.

Is there a setting i need to adjust for the media player perhaps to allow it to play with the same settings that the classic does ?

I've seen minor issues with Windows Media Player because sometimes it takes a few seconds before it can make one song play. Though I do not know what exactly causes this issue but have you tried playing movies with different formats to see if you still have this issue??? We can just say that the other media application is a bit better in handling this .avi format.

i have klite codec pack installed

The quoted text is most likely the root of your issue.

Uninstall all codec related installations (klite, divx etc) and use a software that is specifically designed for use on Windows 7. Install the Shark007 Win7codecs.

After installation, Open the Settings Application and choose to use the SUGGESTED settungs checkbox. Now all files will play in WMP or even Media Center. If you prefer to use MPC, i release pre-configured versions for use with my codecs on my tools page.

If you chose to disable UAC, you may never get this working correctly.

MMmmm thanks for the input peeps, my issue is this whatever the difference is between Windows 7 ultimate, Windows 7 Home premium and vista home premium. Allow me to explain.

My old pc i just sold had vista 32bit on it and i used my kodec basic pack and ALL my .avi files worked glitch free. No black screen between normal view and full screen.

My other pc has Windows 7 ultmate 64bit and again, no issues.

I just built a new system and have purchased Windows Home premium 64bit and this is where i am having the problem.

All my drivers are up to date and everything works 100% except this black screen delay on some of the .avi files.

All music plays fine and all films in .avi .mpeg. etc all play fine except some are causing this black screen dalay before full screen playback.

So it must be the media player in W7 home premium 64 that has the issue surely ?

What do you think ?

I am using the classic player at the moment and to be honest its actually better as you have more control over screen pausing and advancing etc, its just annoying why the media player within W7 HP64 has this glitch.

Is it just mine or has anynone else experienced this ?

I know this is an old thread, but I have this problem since buying a GTX580.

I thought it was just because 7 was a bit knackered but last Thursday i formatted and started over... but im still having the problem.

Did you find a solution?

I have the latest Shark007 codec packs installed btw

your system is 64bit. Have you installed the x64Components?

After installation, run BOTH od the settings apps using a rightclick om the Shortcut and choose, Run as Administrator
Then at the bottom of the app(s) check the box for [x] SUGGESTED settings

Yes I always install both versions. I can't imagine why it would be your codec pack to be honest as I've been using it for years and its always been superb!

I just loaded each one up as admin and it said resetting to default settings or something similar, then I ticked your suggested settings.

EDIT: For some reason I got it into my head that this was about a another problem I had.

This one unfortunately still remains and its driving me round the bend
I'm beginning to think that its to do with my new fx card, as I've never this with my ATI card.
Come to think about it.... i have a new motherboard....... im stumped :(
