Hello , I have a problem with media player. It stopped working. If i try to launch it nothing happens.
I uninstalled it through control panel >add remove windows components, but still the same problem. I uninstalled all codecs and tried every step again, no succes...
I haven't tried system restore because its been a while, so I should have to reset it to a restore point of a while ago.

Could anyone give me advice?

I fixed mine by doing the following :
windows explorer>C>Program files>x86 Program folder>Windows Media Player>Copied wmp exe. to desktop>
right clicked > created shortcut to desktop> deleted shortcut pinned to task bar>dropped shortcut I created into taskbar>moved copy of wmp exe. on desktop into windows media player program folder.
Prior to doing this I could only get wmp to run was by Run as administrator. Now all works fine again. None of the posted fixes from Microsoft worked for me.

WMP not starting here either - tried many things

Start of Windows Media Player fails. I get the briefest of flashes and nothing. No discernible trace in task manager while it happens. Win7 Home edition, 64bit. Bags of oomph and RAM. If I open a WMP file then I get "Server Execution Failed". No error messages in the Event Viewer.

I have just added Adobe Premiere Elements and Photoshop Elements - I don't smell any connection. Added DivX codecs later after starting to get problems to no avail.

Have tried the following to no avail - ie the problem is unchanged.
- disable and then re-enable WMP in control panel/programs and features with appropriate restarts (includng disabling the network
- restore system to pre-Adobe state (yes the fault survived a restore but I'm not sure I can be totally sure when I last saw it working)
- directly "open" wmplayer.exe from its folder using explorer
- removed the wmp libraries and watched them rebuild in "user/app data/local/microsoft/media player"
- disabled all the codecs in the drivers32 section of windowsnt/current version of registry

AND:
I reloaded windows only 10 days ago and don't really want to do it again. It's not Windows that kills me but all the other stuff that I then have to reload. (The Adobe stuff is/was the hopefully final part of that rebuild)

BUT:
Windows Media Center is happily serving recorded tv programmes and videos from the system to my televisions over the house network, but if I try to change the media library settings for Video then it crashes.

Solution only works till computer is rebooted

Thought I had found a solution to Windows Media Player problem.
Turned out, it was only temporary. Microsoft Fix It works untill you reboot the computer. Then you are back where you started with same problem.
When Microsoft support post a list of different things to try, It tells me they have no idea how to fix problem. I am dumping WMP altogether. I would suggest Real Player as it is much better than WMP and it works everytime. It plays anything I throw at it and has many more features than Windows Media Player.
So wise up, DUMP WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER, I have.

Windows Media Player Fix - I think

I was having the same server not available errors today. I'm running Win7 Ultimate 64. I ran Registry Mechanic, rebooted, and everything seems to be working. I think I'll stick with Real Player just to play safe.
