Hi everyone i was told to come here from tomshardware to have some help looking into my minidumps... heres a link to the thread to see what's been done; Link

Heres the situation; Running a Homebuilt PC, with 8gb (2x 4gb) ram sticks; Crucial Ballistix sport 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Desktop Memory Model BLS4G3D1339DS1S00. Mobo is msi g45 870. (Not until recently did i find out that this kit that was sold to me from microcenter isn't actually a kit, it's just 2 separate 4gb sticks slapped together and called a kit, not sure that matters)

Got my first BSOD a month or two ago, ignored it, but then it started to happen maybe 2-3 times a day and finally got fed up and seeked help, i looked around and saw that it may be 3 things; Driver issue, Bad ram, Voltage issue.

So, i updated all my drivers, still get the BSODs, i ran memtest on the sticks individually on all the DIMMs and the passed, but when running memtest together i get errors, so to me it seems its something else probably something with compatibility...

What i've tried so far to remedy the situation is increasing the DIMM and CPU-NB voltage by .05 twice, first time i got a BSOD within the first hour, 2nd time it took 6 days for the next BSOD.

any help is appreciated thanks. btw, im watching this thread like a hawk so i'll reply very quickly!

dumps are attached, thanks again.

1. i looked on the msi website and thats the latest update that i see.

2. i have a WDC HDD can i still run that seagate test? running chkdsk on next boot.

4. i already have MSE installed just not active right now.

5. i uninstalled 120%, but the only MSI things i have is live update according to add/remove so i removed that also.

6. as i stated before i ran memtest on the sticks individually on each dimm for atleast 4 passes so a total of 16 passes per stick with no errors but when on dual channel i get errors within the first 2 passes..

ill run the furmark test next, how long should i run it for? and how long should i run seatools for or is it a set time already?

thanks for the reply.

edit: ran the furmark test for 10minutes, no artifacts but i stopped it because the temperature stopped rising at around 64C and the post you pointed me to stated to stop it if the temperature levels out.

Rebooting now to run chkdsk and will run seatools after.

Disc errors, if there is any, will be rectified in these processes. But, I am guessing that the ram modules may be mismatch. I have asked a hardware expert to have a look. Let us see.

back from the seatools test, passed long test and short dst test. nothing much else to do but wait and see what the expert says....

just an FYI, the cpu-z screen shows that i have all 4 sticks in but while running these tests i only had the 2 4gb sticks in... the 4gb sticks are the ones that are in when i have BSOD's if i have just the 2gb sticks in i never have a BSOD...

so just by that i think its the ram sticks but they pass memtest individually.....

Just a thought. Check and make sure your ram serial numbers and volts match. Also make sure you have them in the proper ram slots as per the motherboard manual. Try running the system on one stick of ram installed as per motherboard manual. I can not over state motherboard manual. Sometimes slots are not in the order one would think they would be.

according to cpu-z and the stickers on the ram sticks themselves they're a pair.(same part number different serial numbers) I bought the "kit" at microcenter, but when i looked up the part numbers they're single sticks sold separately so i guess microcenter just took 2 single sticks put them in the same box and called it a kit...volt says 1.5v.

The issue only occurs when running these 2 sticks in dual channel, running the system with just 1 of the sticks works fine and dont get any bsods or memtest errors.

Try going into bios, setting the timings and voltage which is writtten on the sticks, they will be the first 4 you find. Set the timings and voltage by hand (manually). Increase your CPU-NB to 1.2. See if that helps. Sometimes running more than 2 sticks, the memory controller needs some help. If that does not work, we are going to be doing a lot of testing to find out the problem. Also, please show a screenshot of CPUz on the memory tab.

EDIT: according to the screenshots in CPUz, the memory is the same make, model and is correct, if they are a matchedset. Modules are made in sets and tested to work together and that is what you want. Sometimes, even the same models, if not a set, do not run well together. When you bought them from Microcenter, were they in 1 package, packaged by Crucial?

ive done that. after each time i got a BSOD i increase the dimm and cpu-nb voltage by .05

ill set the timings manually though and see if that helps.

Also, plese show the cpuz memory tab. We already have the spd tab. The spd tab shows what the memory can run at. The memory tab shows what the memory is running at. Also, in bios, if you have the option set the memory frequency to 13333 (666). 9-9-9-24-33 should be the first options in bios. They should be listed as CL, tRCD,TRP, and tRAS.

according to the memory tab its already running at those timings, should i still manually set it?

edit: just saw ur edited post, when i bought them from microcenter they were in there own microcenter packaging, when i look up the serial number its for the solo ram sticks not the kit, the kit has different serial numbers.

The BLS4G3D1339DS1S00 is the individual stick (which is what i bought from microcenter in a single package for both sticks) whereas the BLS2KIT4G3D1339DS1S0 is the 2x4GB kit....

im not sure if that has any significance tho.

edit2: alright im back, set the timings like you said and it mirrors what cpu-z said earlier.
double checked the voltages. cpu-nb is set to auto @ 1.265, dram voltage @ 1.6 and nb volt @ 1.2 (been running this way for 2 days or so)

Just for a try. Seperate them into the 2 sets you have, as I understand, you have a 8GB kit (2X4GB) and 2 single sticks. Use only the 8GB kit (2X4GB). Look in your manual. It will tell you which slots for 1 stick, 2 sticks. Set them in the correct slots for 2 sticks. Leave the other sticks out for now. See if that is any different.

The hard part with ram is matching the sticks, the dimm slots on the board and the Integrated memory controller on the CPU. If your problem is memory, the process of determining which of those 3 things can be quite long and very time consuming. Also, while running keep a check on your CPU temps. I use Core Temp but others like Real Temp. Either is pretty good, and as accurate as a temp monitoring program can be. Either will tell you your TJMax, which is the max individual core temp. You do not want to get close to that during normal useage. I also assume you have updated your drivers from the MSI page. If not please do so. You may also want to look at the hardware monitor in bios. look at the +12V, 5V and the other voltages. They should be within +/- 5% of the values. I recall an SSD mentioned in another post. Do you have an SSD? I don't see it listed in your system specs.

One more thing. If it has not already been said, if you are overclocking, stop. Set bios to optimized defaults, at least until we figure out what is going on. You can change the boot order and sata mode and things like that but stay out of the overclocking section and run everything at default values.

well the 4 sticks are 2 sets. 1 set 2x2gb other set 2x4gb total 12gb.

I originally ran this rig with only the 2x2gb kit and it ran fine no bsods.

when i purchased the 2x4gb kit is when i ran into trouble. i get bsods with only the 2x4gb sticks in btw since i tried that about 2 weeks ago.

ill remove the 2x2gb sticks again and do whatever you need me to do ^_^

no i dont have an SSD, i only mentioned it because an above poster mentioned for me to update my SSD firmware.

according to coretemp TJMax is 70C.. i have pretty good fans in my case so i dont think i'll get anywhere near that but ill definitely monitor it.

I was in my bios earlier and didnt see anything labeled hardware monitor, is there anything else it might be labeled as?

edit: definitely not overclocking, havent read into it enough to even attempt. and yea all the drivers are updated.

You never did indicate whether you installed both sticks as per the motherboard manual. I have been having a problem finding your manual on line.

yes i did (dimm1 and dimm2 starting closest to CPU), heres the manual; MSI Global ? Mainboard - 870-G45 "E7599v2.1.zip"

manual says; "In Dual-Channel mode, make sure that you install memory modules of the same type
and density in different channel DIMM slots." wouldnt that be the opposite of how it says to install them?

The mobo is color coordinated, 2 blue 2 black..

oh btw, thanks for the quick responses and loads of help.
