Memmory Speed lower than stock values? best memmory x cpu speed config

hi all.

I have 12Gb RAM (4Gb x 3) on triple channel.

checking out CPUZ it shows that tripple channel seems to be running good.

I need some help to determine

1: is my RAM speed set under than sotck value? (SPD tells me that it can be set as 666MHz instead of current 533MHz, without change in voltage); the part number clearly states that the model is 1333Mhz which is double of 666Mhz. Is my RAM running at 1066MHz (double of 533)?

2: also i Attach the memmory tab showing current readings, we have a number which is not the triple of 533MHz (as one would expect with tripple channel). how to interpret these numbers?

3: my BIOS does not show overclocking options; which program should I use to change the memmory speed/multiplyer?

4: which value should I set to have a better interaction with the CPU clockings? (FSB:DRAM ratio)

thank you very much i know those are a lot of questions; :p

DDR means double data rate - data is transferred twice per memory clock cycle (on the leading edge and trailing edge of the clock pulse), so DDR RAM running at 533 has an effective speed of 1066. Some RAM/cpu setups are dual channel, some triple. This relates to how the memory sticks are written to - gives an increase in data write speed. Dual channel has 1 or more pairs of RAM sticks, triple channel has 1 or more sets of 3 sticks. You need identical RAM sticks for dual/triple channel operation. Triple channel RAM does not mean 3X the clock speed.

Double data rate and dual/triple channel are separate aspects of the system. There is also DDR, DDR2, DDR3 and DDR4 - this relates to the technology of the memory sticks, and does not mean 2X or 3X speed etc. The various DDRs are not interchangeable, and the physical construction is different to prevent this.

RAM SPD shows the various settings that the RAM will operate at, but not all settings are available on all mobos.

@Boozad - this interests me :

Computer type Laptop
System Manufacturer/Model Number Sager NP5797 (Clevo CO)
OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 build 7600
CPU Core i7 960 @ 3.2 GHz

ark.intel.com says i7 960 TDP = 130W - that's a lot of watts for a laptop

those 1st gen i7's used to run v hot compared to more recent chips

I checked the specs on the OP's laptop:

1. The max memory speed for the laptop is 1066 MHz. At 533 and double data rate, the memory is running as fast as it can run.

2. Triple channel does not mean three times the speed. See post # 3.

3. There is no BIOS setting or program that will let you run the memory faster. See Item #1 in this post.

4. This is a laptop, and the BIOS is probably locked, meaning that you probably can't alter the FSB/RAM ratio. Even if you could, it's a bad idea to overclock a laptop, particularly one with a i7 960 in it. It's probably hot enough that you can almost fry an egg on that thing to start with.

In short, leave it alone and don't worry about it. The machine is running within spec.
