Memory install contradiction?

What do you make of this? The motherboard manual says this:



BUT....the first two slots (left) on the board are one color and the second two (right) are another color. The manual is telling me to install in two different channels. Should it not be the same channel if I am using 2 DIMMs? It's a GA-880GMA-UD2H

Am I missing something here? Could this be a "typo" in the manual? I have never run into the problem in about 20 builds. It AMD and it's my 1st AMD build but that should not matter much with RAM install. What do you think? Go with the same colored DIMM slots or go with what the manual says?? Very odd.

I have to go to work so I will not respond until tomorrow but please...if you know about this leave me some advice. Thanks.

You put one stick in Slot #1 and one stick in Slot #3.
That gives you dual channel.

Channel #0 slot #1-2 is one color. Channel #1 slot #3-4 is another color.

I don't see a problem.

I got you it is different but the manual is totally screwed up or the board is just unusual.
There is at least 3 mistakes on the manual which isn't likely.

With 2GB sticks
Worst that can happen is to have 4GB single channel if manual is wrong.
You will have it right with 2x2GB or a 1x4GB.

I'd follow the manual. Check bios on boot. If 1x4GB in Bios turn it off and swap a stick.
No need to start Windows if it is wrong.

Normally on every Gigabyte or Asus board I have ever used the dual channel config DIMM slots are the same color. With this config I would be installing the DIMMs in different color slots. It just seems wrong. I will do what the manual says but it seems very confusing for a simple procedure. I have never seen this before.

You don't see the problem? I am surprised this does not seem strange to you. Thanks for your time though.

I don't even have the board yet. Maybe they have fixed this. I will get it tomorrow.

AND maybe it's been too long since my last build. lol (about 2 months)

You see the problem....cool. It's just strange that the places you put the DIMMs are different colors. Thanks man. I will post what I found in case someone else runs into this. It will be a day or two.

It does. Re read my first post. I didn't catch it on my first read of the manual page.

Check the Ram in the bios before starting Windows and make sure ram shows properly.

If it shows wrong you know what the problem is.
Turn the PC off and reslot the Ram.

It is straightforward.
2 sticks, put them in the blue slots or the white slots. slots are alternating, Blue/White/Blue/White

Hey Smarteyeball, good to hear from you. I was thinking the same thing. That's normally the "idiot proof" way of doing it. I guess I will try both ways if one doesn't work.

that is correct. If you use both slots of the same channel then you will be in single channel mode, so slot 1 and 2 are Blue and White which are channel 0.

Dual Channel is using 1 of each channel, so you use the same color of each channel, ie. Blue on Channel 0 and Blue on Channel 1., which is slot 1 and 3.

On this board there are two blue slots on the left and two white on the right, and the manual says for dual channel put the DIMMs in #1 and #3 (different colors) I've never seen this before. It's a motherboard manual typo. The other revisions have it right on the website but not this revision.

Edit: I actually contacted Gigabyte and they responded back saying it is a mistake in the manual. The revision of the board I have went public with bad information in the manual. They changed the DIMM slot config and forgot to change the manual. FYI if anyone runs into this issue. Just put DIMMs in the color coded slots.....that's always going to be correct.
