I am having not much lucky finding out what I need to know. Dell forum isn't helping either.

I have a 4 year old Dell Inspiron E1705. I have W7 Pro 64x and wondering if I can go over the 2GB I have of memory. It would definitely help for PS/CAD.

Where can I find this out?

Unfortunately no, you can't. According to Dell's specifications on this machine 2GB is the maximum RAM.

it would be a motherboard limitation. 5 years ago 2gb RAM was only on high end pcs, most people just had 128 - 512.

You can run the Crucial Scan. Maybe it tells you something different - although I doubt it. It is probably time for a new Computer.

It is limited by design.

If it is just needed to surf, email and edit docs you can run it until it dies a natural death...

Otherwise, upgrade and donate it to a friend/charity. Your "hand-me-down" may be an "upgrade" for them.
