Memory Usage

I have two hard drive in my computer, one I use for blu ray movies and storage. Lately, when I access the movies folder on the hard drive, the green loading bar will start loading and my memory usage goes up to 98%, why is this happening all of a sudden, it renders my computer useless for about a minute or two.

Is the hard drive being indexed?
How many items are in the drive?
How big is the drive?
Where are you checking the cpu increase? (in task manager- and if so what process is increasing?)

Do you have thumbnails enabled for your movies? Does the memory usage go back to normal once they have all loaded? Just a thought since JMH has asked the pertinent questions

I think it is indexed, not sure how to check that. There's about 250 files. The drive is 2TB. I check on task manager and a desktop gadget called All CPU meter. In task manager it does not show the memory being used by any application, but the usage graph shows full usage. Thumbnails are enabled, but they are all loaded before the problem starts. I'll have the folder open and the thumbnails will be loaded, and the green will say it's loading again, though nothing seems to be loading as the thumbnails are there.
