Hello everyone, im trying to overclock my gear and i need a little help... Right now im working on the memory, im just trying to get a little bit extra without damaging anything...

my timings right now are 9 9 9 24 and its 2T... im trying to get it set to 1T for now but when i change it in the bios and try to start up it says overclocking failed and i have to put it back to 2T to get it to start up... i think this may be because my voltage is set at 1.50.... in the bios it says the min is 1.50v and max 2.50v... i would like to know what i should set it as to get it down to 1T....

im also going to up the Processor today, but first im going to go buy a new heat sink to make sure i dont damage anything, going to get a Zalmans, anyone have any recommendations for some overclock settings for the CPU as well? its at 3.2 now, im only lookin to moderately boost things...

any recommendations for Overclocking settings?

first off if you want it single channel you have to change the memory slots

thiere color coded and most of the time if each memory stick is i one oppesite colors will get you 1T ,but if the memory is in the same color slots thats 2T or dual channel

You need to read the MB manual it will tell you more

Also if your not familiar with with OC'ing I would leave it be not to much of a big gain when you do this ,Most of the time Ocing can damage more then do good just keep that in mind

No, except that if your memory is rated 2T that might be a clue. Overclocking memory really doesn't pay off in real world performance benefits anyhow.

Hi mate..it's possible that in order to get 1T rate you "may" need to relax the timings.

Basically I would'nt bother with memory overclocks...the gain is minimal. If you O/C your CPU then depending on what divider you use then you may have your memory O/C'd anyway to some extent.

The other possibility is the mainboard you are using...personally never heard of an "EVO" board...not all motherboards will O/C..for the most part Gigabyte/Asus are the motherboards "most" overclockers use as they basically are made to O/C or support it at least.
Your board may not be one that does.
cheers

you can get 1T by using 1black slot and 1 blue only that will give you 1T even though it is rated two ,I found that out the hard way

You can get 1T with the ram in the same colorcoded slots..my mainboard just auto set it at 1T and all the ram (triple channel) is in the same color slots and

dual channel or triple whatever is meant to use the same color slots not one in each.

TBH, you are really better keeping the RAM at or below whatever its rated specs are.
Overclocking it will not really gain you much, other than in a benchmark. But, RAm is also the easiest piece of Hardware to ruin by overclocking. Especially if exceeding recommended voltages.

When Overclocking the majority of gains will come from CPU clock/bus speeds.

So lower the RAM, find the stable CPU clocks, then raise your RAM speed to where its at or just below rated spec.
This is your best bet IMHO.

It's rated specs are 1600, my mojo the asus m4a79xtd evo knocked it back to 1333 its a known issue with the board so I put it back to 1600 but I'm still at 2T and unable to change... thanks for all the responses BTW

ok guys i figured it out in case anyone was wondering; it IS because of the motherboards dual channel. i am running 4 2gb sticks.. on the boards 4 ports 2 are blue 2 are grey and they are separate channels so all 4 sticks cant run at 1T but they can at 2T.. i found this out because my friend has the same board and RAM and processor, but he can get 1T, but he's using 2 4gb sticks in the same channel.

For CPU , If you have succesfully installed your aftermarket heatsink, watch the temps differences first. After that you can go up to 4GHz with stock CPU voltages ( 1.38 v)without changing bus speed.
