Alrighty, lets get the basics out of the way.
Problem: BSODs, restarts at random, corrupt files (memory_management, Page_fault_in_non_paged_area)
This is a new build, which I did after my previous gaming machine succumbed to such sporadic Memory_management and page_file_in_non_paged_area BSODs, it bacame unusable. A reinstall of windows and new memory didn't solve the issue. So I wrote the aging machine off, and built a new one.
A very few parts were recycled, the hard drives, optical drives, and PSU were all carried over from the old build.
The old machine was:
AMD Athlon x2 6400+
8GB OZC
Asus Crosshair mobo
Dual 8800GTX cards, then a single GTX 280 when PCI-E 2 poped
300GB Raptor
This machine served admirably for several years, a power surge blew the second PCI-E slot, and I was forced to a single slot, and I moved to a GTX 280, the fastest GPU at the time (pre GTX 295)
At this time, I also moved from the Rosewill 800watt PSU (burnt out) to the Antec True Power Quattro
It ran stable for a while after that, then the occasional BSOD (again, memory management), then Page in non paged... expanded the page file size, and it worked for a while longer, then it got worse. And worse. Usually it's ram that goes, so I purchased some G-Skill Ram to swap out the OCZ. Same thing.
At this point, I figured spending more money on the old machine was a waste, wrote the mobo off as having been damaged when the surge that killed PCI-E 2 occurred.
So I built a new machine.
Core i5 2500K
8GB Corsair XMS3
ASUS Sabertooth P67
GTX 280
It was fine, the first BSOD was within a week, Memory Management... then fine. Then it started getting worse, maybe every other day a BSOD would happen. Before I could find out what was the issue, the GPU exploded (OK, it made a loud-ass pop and smoked the crap outta my room), and at the same time the P67 Sata bug had mass recalls. So whatever damage could have been done to the board was negated by the new, B3 stepping revision.
After this, I got GTX 560Ti's and the new board, fine again. For several weeks this time. Them it started again.
Now it's to the point where lock ups, BSODs, and random restarts are killing me.
I've swapped the RAM out for a 16GB G-skill Ripjaws kit, and tested the GPUs for issues in another system, they work flawlessly. Still worse.
A windows reinstall is looming, but if it goes like the other machine, it'll do the same in a short period of time.
Could it be a freak issue on three different mobos? A hard drive issue? Or maybe a PSU issue?
Usually I'm tech savvy, but this issue has me stumped. Grade A components, and F performance. On three different setups (old, P67, and P67 B3) the same issues occur.
I'm thinking it could be a hard drive issue, since steam gets corrupted and itunes loses it's library on a weekly basis, however no other issues present. large and small files read perfectly. Access times are per usual (for a mechanical drive).
I'm seriously perplexed, both kits of ram (the 8GB Corsair XMS3 kit AND the G-skill 16GB kit) work flawlessly in my buddy's OEM HP, however, in my system it BSODs, even with a 4GB hyundai kit he had in his machine.
I've tried all the usual solutions, Replace ram, reinstall windows, test components and even memtest shows no errors.
On a side note, Nvidia Display drivers crash constantly in 280.8 previous driver versions work fine, though the BSOD issue still happens.
Could I be hardware cursed? Of the old machine, all I carried over were 2 1TB hard drives, the 1,000w PSU, and the optical drive. If this won't work out, a third build will happen, though with what parts, I dunno.
