Memtest problem

Bought some used SODIMM sticks and the memtest has come up with just one error line as in pic after 8 passes.

Now I have read the info on interpreting the stuff but am no wiser as to what thus error line is about or whether the stick I put in is crap. (came wrapped in foil!!)

I have another stick to run the test on after this so am interested in what to look for - any red - no good - or certain lines of error to be looked for as stick is bad??

Any error is bad. Run the stick again in the other (I assume you have 2 ) slot. If it shows an error stop the test has failed. Run the other stick in each slot. You should run it for 8 passes or until an error is shown. The idea is to determine if the ram slot is bad or the ram stick is bad. If both sticks, for example, show errors in slot 1, but both sticks pass in slot 2, then the motherboard dimm slot is bad. If 1 stick passes in both slots but the other fails in both slots, you most likely have a bad stick of ram.

Ok Steve I have two sticks in the Samsung was ok when I had it and a half GB stick in it is only since I put in this 1GB used one instead of the half GB. I shall try it again with just that stick in both slots and then the other used stick in both slots.

Serves me right for trying to save a couple of bucks but I was annoyed at the fact that the lunatic had wrapped the sticks in foil all the same

Hum I think the mobo is gone as one stick in the top slot and the machine would not boot even to the memtest.

Well the laptop has completed the memtest on all three sticks and no errors.

I did the test in the bottom slot 0 with all three sticks the top slot on it's own will not boot the machine with any of the sticks so I am running the memtest again with two sticks in knowing the stick in slot 1 is ok and that the machine is booting only because the stick in slot 0 is also ok.

That is despite the test screen showing 2x 1GB sticks in situ

Any errors I guess are going to be the board which will be a real pain

Well, a failed RAM slot isn't necessarily bad. Just don't put RAM in there. Might want to do some visual inspection and see if there are bent or unsoldered pins in the ram slot.

Hum I guess so Bob the problem is running 7 and only 1GB sticks available is slow as.

Now I am running a a couple of the known good sticks in both slots and so far no errors with 5 passes.

The other option is my last resort as it is a laptop
