Trying to help someone out in the Crashes and Debugging forum.Windows 7 - Blue Screen Error. They're trying to run Memtest86+ but they're getting, for want of a better description, a screen error.

They've posted a screenshot here.

The wording behind the hotspot is 12K e820 off.

Can anyone shed any light on this? Its something I've never seen before and a Google search for "Memtest86+ error" gives all the results you would expect, regarding Memtest86+ "error", re: Ram. But nothing about an actual "Memtest86+ error"!

That is just saying memory (12k) at address (e820) is OFF, or wrong. Memtest could not proceed. Have them pull all but one stick and repeat.

Try with only one physical stick only in the first slot.

If the error persists, replace that stick with the other module and try again in the same slot.

If the error still persists, place one stick in the third slot and try again.

If one stick works yet the other dosen't - you have a faulty module of RAM. If neither sticks work, then you have a faulty DIMM slot/mobo.

*Note that when using only one stick - not all DIMM SLOTS will allow the machine to POST (start)

Is it possible to manually enter your RAM specs/timings in the BIOS?

If you can, I would. (There should timings on stickers on the RAM modules.)

But as it stands, it sounds like the motherboard may possibly on it's way it out (if it's old) or a dud (if it's new).

I wouldn't put to much faith in the Windows Tool tbh.

1) i have bought this desktop last week : ).

2) yes i tried with the first and the third slots with each RAM.

3) i don't know how to manually enter my RAM specs/timings in the BIOS. but i can try of course

4) the technical service says contrast of what you say. i mean don't put much faith on Memtest86 and windows tool will be more reliable. and the reason of the error of Memtest will be caused by the software which i am using. on the other hand, i used this Memtest86 on different 2 computers and it worked properly.

my technical service specify that latest version of Memtest which is 4.20 Memtest86 is on beta stage. so it will not work properly with intel core i2500k processors. maybe this idea will be true because i tried Memtest with 2 computers which have intel core 2 duo processors._?

ok friends i recognize that why Memtest86 is not working properly, the reason is version 4.10 is incompatible with intel sandy bridge processors. so i downloaded and burn the version 4.20 beta and tried with that version. so finally the Memtest86 is now testing the memory but it have found 2 errors at the beginning of the process. i will share the caps when it is finished.

Looks to me from those results that your memory is shot.

I would rather wait for second opinions though.

:roflmao:

Sorry, that was not directed at you - but at the 'technical services'.

However the fact that it's a sandy bridge system + a beta release of memtest does put a new spin on this. That original error code could indeed be because of incompatibility.

Those two shots showing all the errors - is that the same ram in another machine, or the new one?

On the surface, it does look like faulty memory - but if it's the same RAM in a non-sandy bridge machine, the settings may wrong which will cause false errors. If it is the sandy bridge machine, the memtest beta may also be incorrectly reporting false errors.

But since you were still getting BSOD's, even on a fresh installation - there is still the underlying h/w issue.

Do you know the full system specs of your machine, and if so, could you fill them out?

Otherwise you can use CPU-Z and/or Speccy to get the important info. Namely, what motherboard and exact RAM you are using.

It's possible it may just be a RAM/motherboard incompatibly that's been fixed by a newer BIOS or the settings are off.

yes here my system specs

intel core i5 2500K 3.30 GHZ
Gigabyte PH67-UD3 (Motherboard)
Gigabyte 1 GB GTX 460, 256 bit, GDDR5
2x2 DUAL 1333Mhz C9 Corsair Ram
1 TB Seagate HDD

and i am using windows 7 ultimate - 64 bit O/S

İn addition, after i formatted my HDD i haven't faced with more than one blue screen error. i tried to plug many times my friends USB Flash Memory which was the reason to start many BSOD 2 days ago but i haven't faced with an another BSOD.

What BIOS version are you using? The latest for that board is F5 - although I belive your RAM should already be properly supported.

If Memtest is accurately reporting errors - I'd strongly suggest contacting the place you bought the PC and asking for a replacement set of RAM.

Yes my BIOS version is F5. actually i haven't faced with BSOD last 3 days. and before i formatted my hdd i was using daemon tools which i recognized that i is causing BSOD sometimes. and after i formatted my hdd and pretend to install daemon tools i remember that computer gave an another BSOD. i know Memtest gives errors. but the reason of that maybe about i am using sandy bridge proc. which Memtest86 is not fully compatible with that processors nowadays. and i want to ask another question. will Combofix cause memory corruptions_?. i used Combofix lots of times except in Windows 7 - 64 bit. and thanks for your help brother. : )

I don't know if Combofix would cause any issues. I've never used it tbh.

You should have a 12 month warranty at least, so I'd play the waiting game to see if any more Blue Screens do occur.

Faulty RAM can cause problems at any time, doing any task with no set schedule. You may have no problems for a while and then BOOM.

Fingers crossed for you ;)
