I was hoping that someone may be able to help me decipher what sort of error messages I encountered as a result of running MemTAest86 for a few hours. I have gotten 72 error messages, and I have no way of knowing how severe these messages are. Any help would be appreciated.

RAM (memory) test:
This will require memtest on a bootable CD or USB stick.
RAM - Test with Memtest86+

This tutorial will show you how to run a good test with RAM. Any error is bad though. Do the part of the tutorial where swapping the RAM modules to different slots, checking each one idividually, etc. What is the exact model numer and brand of your RAM?

CPUz will help with the ID of the RAM. Be aware of the installer and uncheck stuff you don't want.

This explains what I understand about memtest.

I would not use that RAM in my system.
Any errors are an indication of bad RAM.
72 errors is VERY bad RAM.

Other reasons for many errors:

  • Incorrect (incompatible) RAM
  • Wrong RAM voltage / incompatible voltage
  • Overclocking RAM
  • Bad RAM slot / motherboard memory controller defect
Test one stick at a time in each slot to eliminate some of these other possibilities. For instance: if one stick of RAM throws up errors in Slot A1, but no errors in Slot B1 then you know that the slot is bad, not the RAM.

Note:

Memtest 86 and Memtest86+ and different programs.
We stopped using Memtest86 years ago because the developer was not updating it to work with newer RAM regularly. I only use Memtest86+ from Memtest.org now.

I understand that Passmark software purchased Memtest86 from the original developer and is reissuing it. I don't know if it has been updated to work with the newest RAM.

But for best results in getting feedback in this forum I would stick to Memtest86+ - since that's what most folks are familiar with.
