Memtest86 errors

I built my computer a few weeks ago and it has been experiencing many crashes BSOD. I am currently running memtest86. It is on pass 2 and has 4096 errors. The err-bits all say 00800000. I dont know what this means or what to do about it. The first time I ran memtest86 a few weeks ago it did 7 passes with no errors.

I was planing on replacing my hard drive tomorrow but could these errors be the major issue?

Till someone comes along to help. I see you have two sticks. Pull one and try to boot. If no boot, swap sticks and run mem test. Colud be a bad stick. But you need to reseat them before giving up. from what you said sounds if they are under warranty.

Near the top of the screen for Memory test it should list what range of Memory it is testing. The first 2mb is the first stick and 2m-4m is the second.

I took one out and ran the other one pass with no errors. Then I put the other one in a new slot and ran it one pass with no errors. Then I put it in the old slot with no errors. Does it make sense that none of the errors are coming back. Dont over 1000 errors mean that there is something wrong with the RAM? Should I return them?

It could have been that one or both sticks had wormed their way loose in the slot. When you swapped them out for retesting you could have reseated them properly again.

It could also be something in the way your timing and/or dual-channel settings are configured. It could even be a heat problem. When you switched the sticks around did you leave the side off the case?

Since both sticks test fine separately, I'd start by putting both back in. Make sure they are securely seated and that there is good airflow. If your answer to leaving the side off the case was "yes", I would leave it off for right now. Then go into the BIOS and choose the safest and lowest memory settings available and run memtest again.
