mic not working

I am using windows 7 for past 3 thinks, i am happy that it has no issues until two days before. Suddenly my mic stopped working both in front and rear. I dont know what happened and i even changed the mic, but still no use. I tried downloading the latest driver from intel(mobo: DG31 PR) but no use. I dont know what to do. Please help me guys. I tried all settings in the control panel and high definition sound manager that comes with realtek driver.

Can you see your green bar levels moving for your Mic input? Also provide a snipit of your record properties/mic properties.

are you using skype ?... skype is known to cause some problems like this.. if you are using skype, uninstall it and try again,

Green bar is not moving

My sound device are working fine expect the mic, i tried both in yahoo and skype, but my voice is not able to hear by other person in the chat.

i couldnt able to find the right solution for this porblem, now i am back to xp, and what the bad thing happened to me is, even in xp i am not able to use my mic now, oh god i dont know, what to do now, because when i unplug and plug the mic in the port, it is getting detected.

I had the same problem, I've managed to fix it by removing the sound device from device manager, the machine then rebooted. Once restarted Windows automatically installed it's own sound drivers. After that it worked fine.
