mice dontwork on 2 windows 7 computers

i have 2 windows 7 computers that dont recignize that i plugged in a mouse. i know the usb port works because i use thumbdrives and other usb devices and it recignizes them onecomputer is an alianware m11x laptop the other is a custom biult desktop computer i know the mice works because they work in my husbands laptop but neither of my computers plzzzzzz ive tried like 5 differnt mice and none work

Are you using the USB ports to the rear of your machines?

A couple of thoughts:

First, try installing (reinstalling) the basic mouse drivers from Microsoft (in the possibility that the drivers are corrupt on two computers simultaneously - not very likely)

Try Option 2 first.
Then Option 3.

If the Upperfilters Key was the problem then I would guess that you have Apple software installed on your two computers and you husband does not.

Older Apple software was notorious for the Upperfilters Key, but I thought they had grown up and stopped messing with Windows with their newer versions.

i refuse to put any apple software on my computers and they have BOTH just had windows put back on it i wiped everything on the m11x and the desktop i just put a new hard drive in. i have reinstalled all the drivers a few times trying to get it working.... i would prefer not to try messing with the registry if i can avoid it because i dont know enough about software and dont wanna mess anything else up

So, don't change anything. Just navigate through the registry to see if those Upperfilters keys exist. 50% of the time they don't, particularly if you have not installed iTunes or other Apple software.
