Solved Micro SD card has 20GB free space but won't accept another 6GB file

I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 that I watch movies on.
The internal storage isn't large, so I've inserted a 32GB Strontium Nitro 466X Micro SD card.
This arrangement has been working fine for several years.

The current use of the 32GB card is all folders, sized as follows:
.android_secure - 0 bytes
Android - 32k
DCIM (Pics) - 265MB
LOST.DIR - 0 bytes
Movies - 11GB

Theoretically, there's around 20GB free. But when I try to add another 6GB movie to the Movies folder, it says, 'Not enough space'. I created a new folder and tried to copy to that, but got the same message.

I pulled the card and inserted it into my computer via a USB card reader, but the result is the same - 'Not enough space'.

Advice, please.

1. Most filesystems have a limit on the size of any one individual file: so if its fat32 you would have to split files to under 4 gig or reformat to another file system

samuria: Thanks, I hadn't thought of that, guess the Samsung must have a FAT32 system. I couldn't find it under Device properties, maybe it's inherent in the Android version.
So, any idea how to split an MKV or similar movie into two parts?

EDIT: Just found a Samsung Manual that says this:

...so maybe the problem is just the card's format, ie, FAT32?

Try to format it as exFat.

I always test all flash drives with View attachment h2testw_1.4.zip
It writes small files till it fills the drive then read to compare. Very good.
It may take many hours. Do it overnight.

A stated file format is probably Fat32 or fat. 2^32 = 4 gb. In reality the limit is slightly less than that. exfat and ntfs are 64-bit so you have an exponentially higher limit. 16 PB.
