Microphone listening delay

Hi!

My usb microphones has a little delay when i make windows listen them.
When i put a microphone to the pink hole and listen it with the audio card, it has no delay. With the same microphone, there is delay if i make windows to listen it. Why is this?

It's not becouse of the usb. If i don't listen the normal microphones with the audio card but with windows, it has a delay also.

Am not sure which audio card you are referring to ? Do you have an additional sound card installed?

It's built in. In the Speaker properties, i can set the microphone volume. It's just for the pink microphone input.

What do you meant by Windows to listen ? :sarc:

Sorry if it's not named this way, but i'm using windows in Hungarian

The delay is not much bit it's there... (0,12 second)

Now I got it. So are you trying to listen from a portable device as mentioned in the option ?

In addition, you can try changing the default play back device options under the same tab !!!

I want to hear back my voice(on speakers) in the same time as i speak. Not with 0,12 sec delay.

I've tried these. The new driver has the same lag.

From what I can get out of the thread you have no delay when you plug in via the pink 3.5mm input but when you use USB there is a delay from when you speak to when you hear it from your speakers. If that is the case it could be because when using USB all audio is software driven vice when using the 3.5mm input it is hardware driven. Not sure if that can be fixed. Just nature of the beast I imagine. Not sure why you would want to listen to your mic other than initial setup. Here's something to try to see if you are intend seeing lag when going out to other users. Download ventrilo and go into setup. Setup the program to use your mic and make sure to adjust input and output level. At the bottom left corner you can test/monitor you mic. Select monitor and start talking into your mic and you should see numbers appearing as you talk. If they react immediately as your talk and stop talking then you know that your actual transmitting voice is not lagged.

I experience the same issue. I'm using a regular analog headset plugged into the microphone and headphone jacks on the front of the computer. I've installed the latest Realtek HD drivers dated December 30, 2009.

It's very useful to be able to hear yourself talking when recording a voiceover for a video, for example. The split-second delay is quite distracting, and makes it hard to speak naturally in the voiceover.

I think it's a driver issue. This same computer running Windows Vista didn't have this problem. Perhaps the next version of the Windows 7 drivers will correct the problem.

The latency is from software monitoring... but that seems odd to me as most all audio systems have the ability to hardware monitor the inputs.

I'll experiment tomorrow and look at the previous posts to see how everyone is monitoring. Are you using the "Listen" tab in the Realtek driver?

Ok, I just tried using a guitar through the Mic input (pink) using "Listen" in the under the recording tab in sound properties. It is software monitoring that's causing the delay. The Latency you're hearing is the Windows audio buffer. If I use the Microphone level volume slider in speaker properties there is no delay as it's monitoring the hardware input.

The USB mic uses Windows built-in USB/Audio device driver.

Question: Does the USB mic show up as a device under the Sound/Recording tab?
Can you make it the default recording device?

If you can perhaps it will show up in Speaker properties with it's own monitoring level. Doubtful but worth a try.

I think i have a same card yo have. I can listen the pink plugged microphones perfectly. The USB devices doesn't show up in the realtek audio card's speaker propertires. Maybe there is some other program for this? A faster one than the windows default?

Okay, I've just lately had this problem and I remembered that it used to work properly once, so after looking a bit I found the following thing:

Instead of opening the Properties on the Recording device, open the properties on the playback device and in the Levels tab unmute the Microphone.
