microphone not recognized

I run windows 7 . The sound card is on the mother board. Chipset G 965 express. The sound plays on speakers but the microphone does not work. It is not even recognized.
The problem may be driver. Current driver

Driver Name: HdAudio.sys
Driver Version: 6.01.7600.16385 (English)
would appreciate any help

With reference to http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/73420-hardware-identification.html I have established that your audio is Sigmatel. Unfortunately, on going to their website IDT - Integrated Device Technology - Knowledgebase it would appear that they do not supply drivers directly. You will need to go to your motherboard manufacturer's site instead.
