Microphone not working most solutions didn't help.

Hello,
I've switch to Windows 7 for like 5-6 months and recently I decided to test out my microphone for Warcraft III. So I plugged it into my microphone jack and decided to try it out via "Sound Recorder." I ran the program and I got the error message
"An audio recording device cannot be found."

So I decided to google around.
Most results said to go to control panel and click "Show disabled devices" Clicked and nothing showed up.

Other results included,
"Update Drivers"
My drivers are up to date. I checked I even downloaded the realtek driver thing and installed it. Still no dice.

I know my microphone works because I just brought it to my school today and it worked fine. I also know my Jack isn't broken due to the fact that 6 months ago I had Windows XP and I used it often.

TL;DR: Mic cant be detected, tried solutions, didn't work.
Help.

Just an FYI...

Your jack may have worked 6 months ago but it may not be working now. If your computer isn't even detecting the microphone port when unused it may be malfunctioning.

That is a variable yes but can there be other problems?

It happened to me as well BUT ultimately I found that mic jacks are faulty...I saw that the same mic was working on my laptop and not on my desktop..Go to configure the mic and then slightly slid the mic jack inside and out and you may find that it is working OR bring some other mic and see.

Hello Jimmeh,

If your audio output is for example 5.1 or 7.1, the sound system changes all jacks to audio outputs.
Sometimes Win7 changes the order of output jacks, try another holes too.

@Apple: I tried other MICs and it didn't work. I've tried fidgeting with the mic in the jack but no dice.

@Mace: I only have 2 holes, Headphone Jack and Mic Jack.

I'm pretty sure that this has something to do with settings. Jacks just doesn't break like that.
Check out the "Recording Device" settings. It must have something to do with it. Win7 is pretty complicated when we're talking about sound, specially with on-board sound card

I have a similar problem in that my mic works intermittently, requiring me to sometimes 'unmute' it. I'm not in front of my W7 PC at the moment, but I think it's in Sound > Mircophone > Recording tab > Properties > Levels tab. If the speaker icon has a red cicrcle on it, then the mic is muted. Click the speaker icon to 'unmute'/enable it.

Hi once again..I found that my mic was also not working properly or intermittently and the problem was the driver. I installed an old driver which I found somewhere and now it is working like a charm.
