It never stops surprising me how bad Windows updates had become since the introduction of Windows 10 (although a bit unrelated this time). Reading the article it becomes evident that the original intention of MS was to play dirty with antivirus developers in order to "fix" their programs supposedly coliding with the meltdown/spectre fixes. And while it's mostly true that AVs are among the worst quality software out there, bullying them isn't really the way to go.

Then the obvious becomes evident, unnoticed until this article. If you don't even have an antivirus, no antivirus can ever set the required registry key to comply with MS threats, adding insult to the injury. If someone decided to stay safe by not installing an antivirus, not they're forced! Instead of relying on OS level security updates, that are a much better way.

Of course, nobody needs to compromise his security by installing an antivirus. One can just set the registry key manually and continue having updates. But why the hassle? Really?

Microsoft seemed to have lifted the "blocking" of updates for Win7 & 8.1 on April patch Tuesday.

i agree microsoft has damage the software to force people to bye newest software, i know this ask fack
i use help microsoft make paches was time 2012 was a no falut server now it has so many probems and domain
they no longer work as they should, there encripton can be broken less 30 mins, unless u useing 256 disf then they got prob
no one broken that, but nsa has told microsoft in 1999 to spy on us, and microsoft been doing so but selling all our information,
can u see some one comeing up with plans for fusion and microsoft taken them plans and such things are going on,
u dont give away windows 10 unless some where there is a pay back and payback is that no one can keep it running and they get tons of calls
each call 149,00 for each probem, now few out there know what to do most dont, i wont run my computers on internet no more, in fack i want swich over to apple sell all the keys i got and replace all the hardware, i tired of microsoft spying on us tired of there pachs breaking our computers,
tired them stelling passwords and encritopn certifces to get on the pc. for give my spelling have add why i know computers so well cant remember most my past so mind got do something well and for me it learning how software works and how it breaks and they will break u pc no doute about it

I did a clean install of Windows 7 Pro this morning, and I successfully downloaded and installed all Windows updates which were listed the first time I scanned for updates. I didn't install any antivirus program, but it's possible that Windows Defender was running.

Do u know how many clean installs I done, in past 15 years over
100k went has far lowformating all disk
I have 200 pages in keys all leagle all Way 2016 server
Wich I refuse to use, I have 12 hrs day 7 days week
On computers, my network can’t be hack never has been but I discovered something microsoft wants at any and all cost but won’t pay me I found out why update fail why the computers can’t recover I found huge problems in domains
Problems so big this software should not be used on enterprises level, I think we all understand why big business won’t upgrade there os they know what microsoft is doing,
Look all government ask why they not useing windows 10
Not because bugs because so heavy coded with back doors
But microsoft needs not worry I do know how Stop u all and talk for hr with top people at business that makes hardware software to stop u they ask why I do this for free I told them microsoft hack wrong network and they declare war with me
And I will do what ever takes to stop them why because they work openly with our government

A little math shows that would be over 55 clean installs per work day. With the time it would take to clean install Windows, install all drivers, and install all Windows updates on 55 computers a day, every day, week in and week out, for half a career, it's no wonder why you're so angry.

Personally, I would have saved time by using imaging utilities.
