Microsoft buying Adobe would fix both companies' Apple problem

I'm quite sure most of Adobe's bloat is a direct result of trying to protect itself from Microsoft in the first place, there's some very interesting history freely available, regarding Adobe and Sun Microsystems vs Microsoft for those who aren't blindly devoted to Microsoft or Photoshop worship..

Just about anyone who has used Gimp running in Red Hat Linux or a non-US distro of ubuntu Ultimate Edition with all the available plugins installed to would never even consider photoshop as a better product.. There is just about nothing photoshop has to offer that can't be done in gimp with less resources if you have a little experience

Remain aware that Adobe do more than Photoshop. Lets not associate Adobe with only one of their products. Its like saying Microsoft only do Windows, and not Office etc. Im using a Microsoft branded wireless keyboard and mouse for instance.

And while I agree with the Idiot, most companies/Universities are unlikely to move to RedHat, or other Linux distro with full plugins, to take advantage of the better-than-Adobe's-photoshop alternatives.
Mostly because most companies/universities use more than photoshop. Such as Acrobat Pro (probably a better one in Linux too), Dreamweaver, Encore, Fireworks, Flash, Illustrator, InDesign, Premier Pro, Soundbooth. All of which come under the CS5 collection.

GIMP vs Photoshop

Just about anyone who has used Gimp running in Red Hat Linux or a non-US distro of ubuntu Ultimate Edition with all the available plugins installed to would never even consider photoshop as a better product.. GIMP is good enough for me, but there are some things it doesn't seem to have.

How do you do a radius colour select, instead of pixel colour select in GIMP?
How do you do variable diameter brush softness without creating a new brush each time?

Also I can never find good help on plugins.
I have a noise reduction plugin with 10 sliders, but I have never been able to find a decent description of how (& when) to use each adjuster.

I use GIMP because it does what I need and I can't afford to spend $300+ on Photoshop.
I don't edit pictures for a living (I only mess around with stuff I've grabbed from the Internet).
That said, I don't think that Photoshop is $300+ better than GIMP.

GIMP takes 1 - 2 minutes (in Windows XP & 7) to load on my PC!
I think that is because it insists on loading all the fonts on my machine at startup.
I have 145 fonts installed in Windows (out of 241 total).

GIMP takes 20 - 30 seconds (in Ubuntu 10.04) to load on my PC. :D
Of course Ubuntu seems to only have about 10 fonts installed.

Of the Adobe products that I am familiar with ( Acrobat, Flash & PS) Photoshop is the only one which isn't total garbage.

Flash is awful.
As an experiment, I downloaded a clip that I noticed was using about 80% of my CPU power (in Firefox on my previous PC setup).
I was able to run the same clip in 4 different media players simultaneously (MPC, GOM, WMP & Real?) for the same CPU load!
