Anyone have any opinions on this new browser which Microsoft is using to replace Internet Explorer in Windows 10? Is it available for Windows 7?

MS Edge is supposedly more stable and secure than Internet Explorer (IE). It is a complete re-write of the search engine, so has very little in common with IE. Edge is used as part of Cortana search, and Edge is not available for Windows 7. But that in itself does not make it worth switching to Windows 10.

I think Edge is lighter and faster than IE ever was. But I still got it to crash my computer.

I believe it is solid fact that Microsoft don't intend updating IE anymore.

It's just a fork of the very same IE codebase and then (supposedly) improvements where made upon it. While the graphical aspect is widely different, internally both use the very same Trident engine, so there are many things in common with them. I simply consider it as "IE 12", while technically incorrect it's a good approximation of what it does.

Since it's a Windows 10 tablet program, it cannot run on Windows 7 or anything else than Win10.

As of a few days ago, the Canary release of Edge (which is now Chromium-based) does indeed run on Windows 7 and Windows 8.x

I used it for about 2 weeks as my main browser on Windows 7 and performance deteriorates over time.

Some YouTube videos start stuttering and I have to delete the whole profile and start from scratch in order to fix it... Does not happen with Chrome.

The other issues are you can't sync unless you have Shitdows 10 and the browser://history page is inferior to Chrome, because in Chrome you can select multiple entries and delete them at once, with Edge, you can only delete them one by one like an imbecile and if you click too fast on the [x] buttons, it may accept the click as clicking on the entry itself and it will load it in a new tab...

The third issue is that the new tab page in Edge is similar to the one they've pushed into Internet Explorer 11 and the old Edge - a page with a Bing search and "curated" news articles... a page you cannot disable in Chrome Edge, the only solution was to install an extension called "Blank New Tab Page", which is stupid, because you have to install a whole extension just because Microsoft are trying to know what's best for you.

I thought Edge was good and it will replace Chrome for me, but after 2 weeks, I uninstalled Edge and am back to Chrome where everything just works out of the box.
