Microsoft Office 2010 vs. 2007 vs. 2003

What's the difference between the 3? Or is there any difference? I was thinking about upgrading down the road sometime but not sure I will.

Currently I'm very happy with my Office 2003. It works well for me.

Perhaps someone else can speak on 2003, but in 2007 the apps all interact with each other seamlessly. Lot's of direct connections from one to the other.

Need a chart in Powerpoint? Click the chart button and a new Excel spreadsheet opens up, with data ready to roll. Want to integrate a spreadsheet with a Word file? No problem, link the two files together (from within Word) and set them to auto-update for data changes.

I use both 2003 and 2007. To me, the biggest difference is the ribbon. Moving from 2003 to 2007 takes time to make out where all the buttons have moved, many require extra clicks in 2007. E.g.Print is behind the Office orb. Also, to read the document properties, you need to click on the orb, then on Prepare.

Also, that Help-About button was most convenient. But not with 2007. How do you do it? Click on orb, then click on word options, then click on Resources, then click on About! And it takes a while to figure that out.

Between individual features, there can be variations though. Pivot tables are far easier to use in 2007 E.g. but Outlook 2007 is no big deal over its predecessor.

All in all, still prefer the classic simplicity of 2003.

Let's see, I went from happily using Office 95 to XP. I rode the XP pony for about 9 years. Last year I finally moved to 2007 and I like it very much, after spending a semester learning the ins and outs.

I'm sure that if you've been using 2003 for the last 6 years or so, you know it pretty well and see no reason to update. I completely respect that. To that point, I have no plans to switch to 2010 any time soon. About the only way I will switch is if it is offered to me free, as a college student who is taking tech courses.

Excel in Office 2007 can handle much larger spreadsheets.
Working with very large spreadsheets I eventually got to the stage where re-calc took too long in Office 2003, so I upgraded to Office 2007.
The same spreadsheets re-calc in a flash in Office 2007, so I can now leave re-calc set to automatic most of the time.

The new ribbon takes a bit of learning but once you get used to it, it is easy.
Office 2010 is even better.

I'm seriously considering getting Office 2010 via MSDN on day 1 (next week).

Any known bugs ?

I say that because I remember Office 2007 Outlook Calendar having a rather inconvenient bug of not wrapping multi day events when printed which caused the event to disappear off the right hand edge and not appear in the following week.

I spent quite a few months having to create a load of single week events until they fixed it in one of the service packs.

I have a bug When I try to send mp3's to anybody it just times out always with an error code, got in touch with the ISP O2 and asked if there was a problem with the email and they said all was fine. All other email sends just fine.
